I love Ruby's enthusiasm here!
She is always full of energy! X3 I mean you have to have that kind of enthusiasm to become the world's greatest fortune hunter no?
The problem is Ruby is one of the most clumsiest fortune hunters out there! Looks like she still has a long way to go before she can truly fulfil her dreams! ^^ *thumbs up*

I believe you ripped off Luffy from One Piece.
;___;
Ruby's grin = Luffy's Grin
Ruby's personality = Luffy's personality.
You can hate on me all you want, but become a real artist and develope your own characters.

XD No offense taken.
I don't plan to become a real artist anyway. Comics is my ultimate hobby.

And I didn't mean real as in professional, either. I meant real as in developing your OWN characters and their OWN personalities. I meant become a real artist and stop ripping people off.
And I guess in your terms of "I don't plan to become a real artist" I guess you want things to remain shitty?
Seriously, grow up. Stop taking the time out to rip off Luffy, Sonic and any other faggotry and and start to add some depth to those paper-thin characters you have.
I mean...That you call "yours".
I also have plenty of proof on this, and once again, don't get all butthurt over it, mmk?

What's there to be hurt? = ) Don't know why you're so heated bout' this.
If you have enough sense and maturity you will read the comic throughout it's entirety before forming a proper opinion on it.
Ruby has other qualities, not just givin' that smile everytime she wins the fight.
Bitchin' other artists on the cheap ain't right. Also you ain't my director or publisher, I do what I want, none of your business really.
Feel free to correct what you think is wrong with my characters, I already know what they are - so there's really no point other than wasting more of your time. So... Yeah, go for it.

Tsk, tsk some artists will never learn, will they?
You know...Whenever someone makes a negative comment about your comic, you always reply and whine about how said person is wasting their time and have nothing to prove.
I know you can probably be backed up by tons of thirteen year old girls and sonicfags because of two reasons: A: They are sonicfags and B: They want your cock.
Anyway, that's beside the point. I have proof of your carbon-copy characters and designs. Now, I'm not saying I'm going to send it to you because according to you I'm "sittin' here an' wastin' my time".
Plus, I'm not the only deviant to call you out on the error of your ways. I'm not trying to "change" you but I'm just firmly stating that in the art industry, ripping off someone elses' characters is a big no-no. I thought you knew that...Since you call yourself an artist.
Trust me, I have proof. And you can whine to me about it all you want, I don't care. But as much fans as you have, there are an equal amount of people that see through the lame comic strips you shell out. And I don't get why you skipped over my advice to build up and add depth to your characters. I'm an major in Literature and your characters, like I said, are tissue paper thin.
Work on your own ideas instead of ripping others off, I said that before. You keep missing it.

Ha ha, you're spittin' more venom again. XD Bring on the lectures baby!
But yeah in a more serious note I didn't state I was a true artist, that's the problem with those who criticise my work everytime, I'm just someone who likes to draw for recreation - is that hard to understand?
A true artist would deviate their style and make work original and fresh, I'm no innovator for that cuz it takes years of serious study and dedication to the art whether it be illustration, graphic design or photography - in your case you are one)
I'm someone who takes an existing idea and build upon it. What's wrong with that when some of the top pros in the art industy base their stories and ideas from artists that inspired them? (e.g. Echiro Oda following the footsteps of Akira Toriyama)
Oh and be more specific next time too, art is too broad, you gotta narrow it down for someone like me - someone who draws comics - so in that sense Comic/manga/graphic novels, don't mistake me for art in general.
Carbon-copy characters... Sessh, watch what you say man, it ain't necessarily carbon-copy, have you even studied ANY of the other anthro morphic cartoons in the 1980's? Go and check out some of thier cartoon styles and such like Willy Fog, Dogtanian. How about stuff from the 90's such as Biker Mice from Mars and also games like Klonoa (big influence on my drawing style)? They all share some features that can be seen in Sonic characters - heck even Mickey Mouse/Disney characters have something similar in terms of cartoon design. (such as the shape and proportion of cheek and nose).
I'll be ripping off for sure if I had an absolute recolour of Sonic the Hedgehog. XXD That would be funny... Try and find one in my gallery if you can (and I do mean absolute)
I also add peronalities and traits to these new characters I make using the designs derived from Sonic/Klonoa and other elements of 1980's anthro cartoons. Try and find a character of mine that had Sonic's personality in it - cocky and egotistic, runs fast and always confident in times of saving people's asses.
Ashworth the Wombat is like no other (based on the latest derived design). I made him more musclier and more realistic in terms of his anatomy. I don't see a Sonic character that looks like this dude or has the same attitude and sense of humour and unpredictability as Ash. Go figure.
And regarding the fans - fans are who they are and what they do. If they wanna support me and suck on my cock for my stuff the nlet them be, I'm not making any money out of this - ultimately I do this for the sake of my well-being (having a recreation is key to good health, much like exercise to keep your mind fresh till you grow older and less inspired). So drawing benefits me when I'm old and grey. Very much like a relaxation kind of activity - nothing wrong with that.
And try not to dis the fans, you'll know how it feels when you start getting some yourself. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if you did get some for your quality of picture perspective in your photography - a lot of it's great from my POV. And don't say after this comment that you don't need fans, who else is going to support what you 'want' and 'like' to do for a living? Sucks if you get people who dis your work on a regular basis.
Though I'm going to deviate from the topic here - you do need fans but you also need critiques - one like yourself.
Teach me all you want, but I'm clear with where I stand and what I do. I quit the next day if I want but I want to continue because of many reasons that can be explained in the future.
For now go and do what you must, I didn't ignore your message. Just make sure you understand where I'm coming from before you write a comment of your nature.

I never said anything was a recolour or anything stupid like that (even I know you're better than that) but this page proves everything I was talking about:
[link]
Granted, ED isn't usually a valuble imformation source (mainly for the lulz) but in this case, it's actually proven to be valuble.
And as for style, I've said it time and time again, so much that I sound like a broken record. Yes, you may get ideas from other artists to improve your current style. Not change it so much that it looks like the original artist's work. Your penciled stuff was good. And now...you've changed your style to some shitty manga-esque style with over use of the dodge tool and blinding colours.
Go with what you like and what best describes you. You want to define and fine-tune a style enough so that when someone sees it, it just screams "Hey, that's Elson's!"
Because, quite frankly, if I didn't know you or your art already and saw it in a tiny thumbnail on Deviantart, I would pass over it because I would just think, "Oh, some Sonic junk."
You need a style the refects you and who you are; not a recreation of someone else's style to fit you characters.
Ans speaking of characters, they should also be a reflection of you and you should be able to relate and actually grow with your characters as time progresses. This produces both effective and dynamic characters aswell as a wonderful storyline that generates a mood or feeling. Yes, you may get ideas from other characters, but those ideas should just be tiny little building blocks in building up your characters. And characters are usually prefaced by "Original", thus making them "Original Characters".
Originality is key. And making an almost direct copy of personality and expression of someone elses character is not "original".
And fans: Fans are great, but what happens when they start to notice these things, too? Plus, fans shouldn't drive you to produce art. Whether they be fans who support or fans who diss, you should strive in the art community because YOU want to.
And thank you for your comment about my photography. But still.
It doesn't matter if you're a professional artist, a budding artist or someone who just draws for fun, everything should be original and submitted because YOU like it. Art is an expression of ones'self.

[I emphasised the sentence I have added in because I know well that was well and true based off on a conversation & had about me and my oddly unexpected and rude behaviour [link] - I had discovered that convos many months later after my frustration and abuse to my friends Veronica and Oliver and their critque on my work.
I know it was genuine of her to critque in spirit of helping me out and find a new improved style right after having a conversation with Veronica about it too via Skype - I'll never forget it]

That's cool to know you're a traditionalist in the philosphy in art, I'm sure you would have been taught about it strictly in your college or studies.
The thing is I've never been to an art school, I haven't been trained to follow there rules or schools of thought. All of this comic making was done for fun, it was a bonus on the fact that I had a strong interest in the anthro design coming from the Sonic series - and that I was able to share this passion of story telling using an anthro character design derived from Sonic the Hedgehog/Klonoa.
Anyways I want you to check this out: [link]
Compare that with his new designs - [link]
Now I've seen TWULF since I first joined DA a long time ago and he is one of the rare artists I know who truly follow that perfectionist mindset. Very dedicated and hard working this fellow - it's beautiful to see his evolution in character design - I would love to have his ability and motivation to draw just as great as he did with his concepts.
But the prob is I'm not him, and I don't have any forced motivation/pressured situations to push myself as far as TWULF did with his characters. The diff is that art is going to be his career and lifestyle - his choice. My choice in contrast is purely recreation (and part experimental if I want to earn a few bucks for fun - just to see how far I can go). My art style has always been based on something and I don't see the harm if I did it to entertain people that are within the same interest group (obviously the Sonic fandom in majority).
But yes you are right about how I have the potential to deviate in terms of style/character design. So far I'm extremly happy with the evolution that Ruby and Ashworth has gone through since early beginnings. [link] (very SONIC-LIKE that concept pic... XXD) And I'm at the point now where I love this style that is part cartoony part serious in anatomical structure [link] I don't think I'll be changing the style for quite a while.
"Your penciled stuff was good. And now...you've changed your style to some shitty manga-esque style with over use of the dodge tool and blinding colours."
Why thank you for the compliments on the penciled stuff. I still love that style of traditional medium for an art style but I feel that colour is the way to go now. Now please explain the 'shitty manga-esque' style to me, that's a bit harsh ain't it? Are you not fond of manga format style or something? So you would much prefer a very western dynamic style used in SUPERHERO comics like Marvel/DC or the dark and abstract style as seen in Darkhorse/Image? If that is the case this opinion is bias which is fair enough for me to appreciate.
And yes I'm proud of the very recent 4 pages I've done in full colour for the first time for a comic series. [link] In fact I wanted to see what if I could imitate the colouring style used from the more recent issues of 'Sonic Archie' series. From my POV it's almost similar in terms of the colour and shading (I do mean almost though, there are highlights used by Matt Herms in his works). So are you saying that the way Sonic Archie comics (recent issues) colouring methods sucked too (the colours in that comic is usually very dispersed, full of bright colours and usually not monotoned - depending on the situation of course)? Please be honest with me on this one - I can't really tell the major difference (you can check the pics for refrence on my latest journal) [link] This one ALWAYS confuses me from critiques - and yes fair enough I did use burn tool on the latest but it doesn't mean I can't achieve something as good as the one I did here [link] one was purely though brush techniques with 10% opacity - much like how talented artist EvanStanley does it in hers [link] )
But yeah if you think what I do ain't right, then that's fair enough, I'm through with the classic 'time to bash this shitty artist for copying styles' regime. In real life I'm a nice guy and I don't like to hear that kind of crap when I'm doing this for fun/free/recreation. I treat this as my personal hobby, I'm not doing this to hurt people and certainly not intended to piss art purists off with their ways of 'originality'
And finally, regarding ED. Man I have NOT looked at that page of me for more than a year - god knows what updates were made of me (and I'm being very serious with this).
I don't care what people write of me there, it's just a load of bullshit - fact or fake. But I can tell you one thing that is true in that ED page of me and that I will regret dissin' my friend Veronica and her fiance Oliver for their critique on my artwork style - I took their message the wrong way and hurt them more than I had imagined with my rants back.
So to , I still from this day won't forgive myself for doing that. Big mistake and I'm only human to do so. Ever since I read about the hate I saw in those people I couldn't look back. So I hope you can understand if I did not take any notice of ED, I personally dislike that concept and personally I feel that noONE likes to be there (hell how would you feel if people wrote about you and made negative interpretations that you know weren't true but is now a record for all of the world to see? How can your prove that kind of crap when you can't even see those people IRL? Fuckin' bullshit that. And I'll only swear this one time on this reply, I do apologise.
So yeah ED, I don't want to talk about it.
Thanks for your review on my art though, I apprecaited that in all honesty. Though next time try to understand where I'm coming from first before dissin' me and my ways of drawing comics (I mean why did you reply within the hour of writing your first/second comment with this 'I'm surprised you didn't respond to me all butthurt.' I didn't even see your comment till I got back home, that's not fair to judge that I didn't see your comment and didn't want to reply to it.)
I don't understand why people would go off on one all of a sudden as if they know everything there is to 'art' and expect that person to change. It doesn't work that way... Anyways I swear that ED made you say all those things with plenty of fuel and fire - heck I didn't even know you! Man how I hate ED for that... Grr, makes me so pissed off for the fact that I didn't even do any harm to anyone for doing what I do for recreation (this is what I think is a negative repurcussion to my hobby of drawing comics... Sad really)
Enough rant, thanks for the review, like I said, much appreciated.
