(edited on 24th April 2008)
Introducing the lovely port town of Cape Locke! ^^
I enjoy doing backgrounds once in a while to build up on what the world of The Grand ASHWORTH Fortune has to offer to readers.
Thanks to all who have commented on my previous page!
Further thanks to those who mentioned the relationship build up between Ruby and Stream! They really have a special relationship that is almost like mentor-student, father-daughter etc...
Oh and thanks for the compliments on the funny expressions on the previous page too! That was definitely influenced from Oda's style! ^_~ *thumbs up*
Only 9 pages to go before I finish the book! ^__^ 8D

Greetings darkspeeds
I have already went through the pages from 10 to 13 and I must say it is really stunning. Some are funny some are interesting. The funniest part is when the Hawk was giving an example of the danger that Ruby might experience during the hunt LOL like pouring on her sand and poking her with a fork LOL.. This is too rich DUDE!!
So joining the TRAP force is not a good idea in getting to the treasure on time... hmmm... seems pretty obvious. Just like joining a force and spying on their Organization. You are found you are dead meat.... thats it!
Now about Ruby she really makes me feel more attracted to her! She never seems to quit and very energtic. But I hope that she will not underestimate her fulfillment and let the Hawk regret it.
The city of Cape Locke looks like the place I would like to visit if it is real It is such a beautiful site... I can imagine the ambient sound... Aaa.. so relaxing and chilling... waves from the sea, Bird singing, pure light wind... nothing to disturb such perfect life *Workers yelling can be heard* Arrrgg.. I think I better change that relaxation sentence.
Anyway, hope that your work is near to over. I know how much effort that you have put in making ... let say that you have mentioned.... 60 pages in 20 days!! To me that will be like months. You really are the kind of making Entertianment for your Families, Friends and yourself as well. Keep up the great work Elson. God bless your talent

Nail down the perspective better, you should be reaching a good professional standard soon.

Heya Mayshing! Thanks a bunch for the comments and feedback! ^^
Yes indeed I think I drank too much blood from Oda to get those influences! Well artists need to get their inspiration somewhere no? Just like how Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama. XXD
It's great how you picked that up about the perspetive on this page. If I had taken away the building with the flag to the right the perspective would have looked more decent! But I was 2/3s of drawing the building (the last part to draw for the panel) and I suddenly realise the mistake... Then I said to myself (it was already like 4AM in the morning...) "Hmm... Should I fix this...? I've gone through so much trouble drawing this and eraser 20% of the panel will mean disaster... Meh!" *Darkspeeds was too lazy to readjust and continued finishing off the page that early morning* *SHOT* LMAO! XD
That was how it was really! o.O;;;;
*take a more closer examination to the page...*
Holy crap! Everything is wrong! LMFAO! XXXXXXD
Oh well... *SHOT again*
I wonder if you get that feeling sometimes with your comic series... But I have a feeling you are the persistent type and will realise the mistake, get another page and draw it again even if it was 80% complete (plus shading/colouring applied!) XXXD Man that's real commitment! *thumbs up*

I drink the blood of Norihiro Yagi, artist and author of Claymore lately. The commitment he has in making everything so detailed keeps me fired up and competitive.
I love Oda too, his work is very fun.
About manga... it's not a medium that will allow you to go back to fix every mistake you have ever made, other wise nothing gets done. It's unlike illustrations in that manner. I often leave mistakes behind as well. Now of days I tolerate some mistakes on my part, some I can not tolerate... Especially mistakes with story telling and paneling, those are worse than drawing mistakes. ^_^b
For this piece... I really don't know how you set up the perspective here... did you set it up before you go into the houses? Or just draw as you feel?
for some reason I see several Horizon lines here. O_o
Have you seen my perspective tutorials yet?

Awesome. By the way, I've been meaning to ask you something. Do you have to pay a royalty to SonicTeam for using their art style when you start selling it?
π: 0 β©: 1
darkspeeds In reply to JalessiaJ [2007-08-23 05:15:05 +0000 UTC]
Good question Kelessic. = )
The answer to that is no. I don't need to because I believe with confidence that it is another form of anthromorphic style that I have successfully refined from many years of drawing. Though I won't disagree with the fact that it was derived from my exposure to the Sonic Team style (and a combination of Klonoa style too ^^) it is still a unique style that I'm confident that I won't get sued over. *thumbs up*

"Here we go, kids. WeΒ΄ve arrived the beautiful town of... Caps Lock!" *double shot by Darkspeeds*
I canΒ΄t help but saying this. When I read the townΒ΄s name, I for a while thought you got inspired on a certain Keyboard button.
Anyway, in honest words, the town looks beautiful, sorta like a dream town whenever you want to get started as a sailor or something. I just wonder one thing, doesnΒ΄t the lighthouse seem to be a tad too small in height, or is it me whoΒ΄s looking at it from a wrong perspective, not taking into account the distance the building is and such?
Still, it looks great neverthenless. The crowd, the vessels at the far end of the sea and the fountain really gives us the feel itΒ΄s a very popular port town with an pleasurable environment, quite the perfect scenery for an island in my opinion. I get sad with the fact thereΒ΄s only 3 more pages to go though, I was sorta enjoying the story, now with the introduction of Caps... er... Cape Locke. ^^
Keep up the good work!

Wow. Amazing scene. This is going to be a cool comic. Even though it isn't much Dialog, I can sense something important happening soon! I hope you don't leave it at a cliffhanger, but you do what you gotta do. I'd root for you if it was a page a month. It's worth the wait xP
π: 0 β©: 1
darkspeeds In reply to The1Neo [2007-08-21 08:15:30 +0000 UTC]
Thanks The1Neo! = ) I don't want to have too much dialogue on each page cuz otherwise it really isn't a graphic novel at all! LOL! XXD Don't worry I've compared to other mangas/graphic novels that most of my pages contain more dialogue than the standard! Though that doesn't mean there isn't any action and drama either.

Heh, I'd have to agree so far. I've read other comics, but really only Sonic comics. That is, for Comic books, at least. That, and Ghost in the Shell. It's really interesting. Anyway, Yeah, that's true.
I can't wait for your book to come out! And, I'm sure you're getting closer and closer every day! ^.^ Keep up the good work!

Yes most of the population is of bird species. However there is still a mix of other animals due to the nature of of people wanting to migrate into Fortune Islands to fortune hunt! ^_~
