Ahh... Wow...
Well, this is a dramatic, dynamic, epic sketch of one monster that I never want to face in a videogame ever. The blocks of black/contrast, the shading and the technique used is amazing. The claws especially get me- the bulging muscles in the 'hand' the shading on the claws, you put the claws into the 'fingers' like they're supposed to be... I could praise the sketch right out of this drawing if I wanted to, but I'll stop at that.
Improvement wise... It's a sketch so messy comes right in with that. But I am going to agree with Miss Virginia, it is very hard to tell what is up with his face. The jaw is unquestionably a mighty jaw with some crazy fangs, but everything above that falls into the shadow of mystery. You can't tell where the eyes are for sure because both are completely acceptable.
His neck and perhaps shoulders(?) are also very unclear. I can tell that it's very muscular, but the nature of it is lost. Again, a lot of that is that this is a very short sketch and you focused (as you should have) on what was more important; the claws and the mighty jaw that makes any monster more terrifying.
The silhouette of the back leg is a little funky and doesn't look like it's placed right. I'm not sure if it's because it's facing the wrong direction, if I shouldn't be seeing it at all, or if I should be seeing more of it. I'm a novice at animalistic anatomy though so... I leave it to your clearly more expert opinion to sort that one out, lol.
One other little thing is you outlined the head with white, obviously to distinguish it from all the black but, honestly, it's unnecessary and it's a bit of an eyesore in this case.
Anyway, if it isn't already clear, I love this picture to death and I can only imagine what kind of monster it would be as a serious drawing.

Haha, I understand that feel.
No problem, happy to help out. I'm sure the finished piece will be amazing.
Thanks for the offer, that's very kind! Sadly, I have nothing to suggest since I haven't done anything serious recently.

First off this is a very eye-catching sketch. The heavy contrasts and sharp attributes of the creature makes it a very threatening illustration.
Taking into consideration that it is a sketch, I usually evaluate it on the basis of if its ready to become a finished piece. Now, if I were to add lines and color to this, I would would rejoice for the information given to me as to where the shadows are, but I would be hard-pressed to find other details. For example, the shading and the shape of the objects above the mouth could be eyes or nostrils. Considering the creature is mythical, I wouldn't feel safe assuming one or the other because it would look "right" if it were either one. Also the top of the head, I suppose, is rather indefinite and I'm not sure where would end or begin and if there's a horn(s) or not.
Overall, this is a rather bracing sketch, and I encourage you to make more just with some more definition. ;D Keep drawing!
