. This one actually didn't take very long to finish. I started it one night while Rook and I were reading some H.P.Lovecraft. Working on this had some sort of sedating effect on me. Even now as i'm looking at it i feel quiet and calm...and sleepy.Media: Watercolour and India ink

Wow! You've got a perfect control of shadows and lights! Your colours are beautiful, I especially like the sky. I still have a lot to learn even with watercolour!

*cough* well...not perfect. It's something I still have to work hard on. *blush*
Watercolour is an awesome and expressive medium. You should definately keep at it!
Not enough people do watercolour. Perhaps that's a good thing though. We can have it all to ourselves. hah. ^__^
Keep in mind though! It IS one of the hardest mediums. There's no room for mistakes.
Alot of great artists use oils. But you can mess up as much as you want with those and just cover it up. It almost seems like cheating to me. Anyways. The point is. Watercolours are really hard. I am impressed by anyone who ventures to try them. So good luck!! Keep at it!

Dear, you need some new material. 2 years here and all you've worked on are trite anime cliches. We all have our phases and specialties, but we have to move on sooner or later. If you like the japanese so much, here's a couple of less conventional visual artists that hail there: Ayami Kojima [link] , Kazuma Kaneko [link] and Yoshitaka Amano [link]
There are other artists you might want to take a gander at, such as our own Linda "Enayla" Berkvist [link] [link] , nicolas "sparth" bouvier [link] , and Juan Gimenez. No, not just take a gander, but ABSORB from these artists, attempt to emulate them as much as possible, and whenever satisfied, move on to other, drastically different ones and keep your mind fresh. You are young, and now is the best time to do this.

Thank you for the links (of course, I already have seen Amano's art). I used to study Enayla alot. Her concept of the human body is quite good...but if you look at her art objectively, she has the same 'trite anime cliches' for her themes and concepts. Not only that, she has been here four years and her art has stayed the same. At least, I know that artistically I have improved. I do not accept the thought that there is some point in which you become so good you are at the peak and will never improve again. In fact, I would stop painting right here and now if that was all I was working to. Emptiness and complete lack of feeling! I do art because I have to. Because these images and emotions I see in my nightmares. NOT because I think someone will like me for it and NOT because I think someday I think I shall be 'alpha artist' and will never again have to put any effort into my paintings. The mere thought sickens me! Neither shall I attempt to emulate artists I look up to. I will admire them. Try to learn something from them. But that is all. I am far too ambitious and competitive to ever aspire to bring myself into their shadow.
As for the 'phases'. I am not the type of person who jumps from one thing to another, to whatever suits me or whatever I feel like 'in the moment' like this society so ardently teaches. I believe in growth not impulsive desires towards whatever is currently accepted.
This painting, I agree, has nothing to it. It was my filler painting to refresh my mind if I grew tired of working on 'Under Shadows' for too many hours at one time. Although there is less detail and motion...there is so much more feeling...so much more of me. As it is based of a true event. Perhaps my art and technique is not up to the level of feelings I try to portray, I can only hope that one day I can obtain this ability in a much deeper sense.
I enjoyed your comment and that you've taken enough interest to say it. Thank you again...

This is really cool. The details are very nice and the flow of the picture is unbelievably elegant. Great color choices, too. I love the border up by her head, and the sword is pretty k-rad too.

Yay!!!! You posted something! I wish I could do watercolors - maybe one day I'll play with - but there's no room for error. At least with pastels or oils you can sort of "fix" things, but you really only get one chance with WC and that scares moi! This is lovely - I really love the upper left, lower right, her hair, and the sword. Super! See you really soon!

there is at least some room for error. if you 'go out of the lines' you can actually lift a certain amount of paint by painting with water over that area. plus, i use so much dry brush its almost as though i was using ink. which feels a little like cheating, but thats how i taught myself. XP but on this painting. i messed up so bad. the background is not a circle. i had two lines drawn and i went outside the first one. paused. then slapped myself. rook was watching me and he said, "myeah...i was going to ask you why you did that." the background is so dark i couldn't do a thing except hope that no one would notice. >_< but, seriously! you should try them. i'm such a huge fan of WC. -especially- when they are not used in impressionist style. give them a chance. its really relaxing. you can do soo much detail. *dreamy* they're wonderful.
p.s. you're almost here i can't wait! aaaaaaaaaaah!
p.p.s. you and the girls need to watch 'mirrormask'. it's a British film, released (first, i think) in the us. its very...original.

Hmmmm, maybe this summer I'll experyment! I used to do drwings in india ink and then use colored ink which was kind of cool. I think wc would be better and easier to work with! See you sooooon!

it's so hard to read your typing...but i think my awesome decifering skills have finally come in handy. ^_^ *pats you on the head* ok. the torso. i was going to say something in the discription along the lines of "yes, yes, the proportions are all off" i mean. she's good from about the ribcage and up. anyways. i figured i'd rather a few people point that out than say something and have a bunch of people going, "no...no, it looks great" when i know that it doesn't XP i don't know. that's my way of thinking anyways. *shrug* i knew one of you were going to see it for sure. the background took the longest so i'm glad people appreciate it. ^_^

That gold and green thing in the corner looks cool too... I love how this looks like it was planned out, but it wasn't o.0 Guh, and the sky is awesome... and the background looks like a crackly wall... There's so much in this pic TT-TT it's crazy

(I'm almost too ashamed to show o.o) despite how crappy it is...its not too bad for my first try. and that was only a few paintings ago...so there's hope for everyone if they try it. heh. ok. enough of the motivational speeches. *blushblush* thank you again for your comment! ^_^
