...what do you need a usd to point calc for? t says on the commisons thingie when you put in the number of points you want.
its easy. 1 point = 1 penie
100 = dollar
500 = 5 bucks
1000= ten bucks
2000 = 20 bucks
5500= 55 bucks

I wish it were that simple. It's not that way anymore. If an artist offers to make drawings for 25 points...well, those 25 points now equals $0.32. That artist is probably doing $10 worth of work for 32 cent.Β
1 point = 2 pennies
9 points = 12 pennies
and so on. The amount of pennies to points ratio goes up by one slowly until $20 is 1600 points. It's ridiculous and causes a lot of artists to undersell their work severely.

hey i have a question:
I make log headers/headers would that be something i can put out for commisions?
Here are some examples: pengytess.deviantart.com/art/Fβ¦
pengytess.deviantart.com/art/Fβ¦
pengytess.deviantart.com/art/Fβ¦
pengytess.deviantart.com/art/Fβ¦
Most of the headers i've made are for virtual world game blogs ( like fantage, which i've made lots of )

But i still dont really understand if sending the commissioner the source file is necessary or is it just an option? can i simply post it on my page and send a link to the commissioner?

Do you Β have to ship the commission Β to the person?
π: 0 β©: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to Chocobikki [2015-08-02 08:03:28 +0000 UTC]
It really depends on the type of commission it is--but it's mainly your choice. For instance, if you do doll face repaintings.. then yah, you're going to want to ship it to them. With any kind of traditional media, you'll probably ship. However, if you work mainly in digital, then it's easy to just email them the image, or post it to a place like deviantart and have them pick it up there.

Wow, that helped me a lot! I'm thinking about commissioning short stories, but I wasn't very sure about how to start. I have a few questions though: how do people pay you in points? And do you upload the finished product right away, or message it privately to the commissioner first?
Please be patient with me, I'm quite new to DeviantArt!

I tried starting commissions and did a flyer and everything, but it was a complete fail, not even a comment or anything when I tried to advertise, so this was a great start. I'm not really popular on ANY site, in fact basically invisible, so I'm trying to get more exposure + make more full artwork instead of sketches to upload. Would it be weird to advertise in real life for traditional art commissions? Like go door to door telling them about my commission and showing them examples, etc.? Just to get at least some people to know about it. ^^

I have question about delivery. So do you need mention how you'd deliver the commission up front? Because like for me..I don't have like a system for that..so If i were to do commissions for lets say a drawing like a traditional drawing i'd only be able to do the drawing and then Send a picture of it to the buyer..I don't have the ability to actually mail anything Yet and Does that detail matter alot? and finally if i state this information up front..will that greatly effect the amount of commissions I could get?
π: 0 β©: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to Rasheen450 [2015-04-02 07:49:03 +0000 UTC]
it's always best to make it clear up front (specifically in your commission faqs/rules) the type of media you work with and how it will be shipped. Could it affect the amount of commissions you get? It's plausible--but i've never noticed it to. If you can't deliver a commission a specific way, there's no need to take those kinds of commissions in the first place, so it's kind of a moot point.

Have you ever had the problem where someone asks for a commission but the message to accept it never shows up in your messages? 'Cause that's happened to me twice now and I don't know how to fix it!
π: 0 β©: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to PageTurner8 [2015-03-23 14:03:20 +0000 UTC]
nope. never had that happen. Β if they say they sent it and it's not there, have them check their sent box and see if it shows (if they sent it, it should). and have them re-send. it may be that they're just choosing not to answer and making excuses though. OR they could have sent it to the wrong name.

This was really helpful but....You say to never drop below $5 or $6...but if I followed those guidelines, then that would make a full-body, colored and shaded picture in the $20 range.....and I really don't think that my pictures are worth $20....

generally, yes it does there may be some instances where it doesn't, you'd have to check with their website, but i've never had a problem with it converting over--and i've had commissions in the US, UK, Portugal, France, and CA.
