Description
I have always been a fan of small netbooks but it's been nearly impossible to find anything smaller than 10.1", especially now-of-days. And even those, with the whole tablet fad at full swing, netbooks are a dying breed...A couple years back I obtained this little Dell Mini 9 which was on it's last leg (battery was shot, SSD was dying). With a little TLC, a replacement battery, and a new 16GB SSD, I nursed this lil guy back to health ;3 Now it's my go-to PC for portability. Sure, I struggle to use it with my massive paws, but I still love it!
I probably should post another picture to give a better size comparison. This really doesn't do it justice displaying how tiny this thing is!
Intel Atom N270
2GB DDR
Atheros B/G/N
Generic 16GB SSD
Windows 7 HP x86 (legit/full install with MANY services disabled)
I had some A/B/G/N card in there but it ran very hot so I swapped out with this other one. Might try some other cards though as this one's had some connection issues. I'm also debating getting the internal bluetooth adapter for it. Oh, and I would have a CrystalHD chip in it but this particular model only has 1 mini-PCI-express slot!

They are fun to have. I've brought it on trips with me or to work a few times. I find these so much easier to use than tablets. I guess I prefer setting the machine down as well as having the tactile feel of the keyboard.

Haha... yeah, that Dell has some oddly placed keys but you get used to them. Careful with the HP, some were notorious for problems. And if you need suggestions for PCs and such lemme know

Well if you weren't in Europe I'd build you a PC :3 I've done it for a few people; basically have the stuff shipped to me, I build it, then they pick it up. But since that isn't an option, I'd suggest looking into some computer shops. You'll pay more but (assuming they know what they're doing) you will get a much better PC. I could even suggest parts and you build it (or pay for someone to).

This is awesome! Sad they are getting replaced by other things. Not all tablets and the like are great, so these are actually pretty ideal. Maybe there will be a revival of this tech in the future. You'd never know...

There are some tablets out with lockable bases so they act like netbooks, but I've still yet to find anything smaller than 10.1". I actually own an Acer Iconia Tab W500. It's a fine lil unit, but I still tend to grab my Mini9 when I want something portable.

well you can get an old 7" EEEPC for ~$40 online and an 904HD for $120ish
i would not call them endangered as there still producing 6"-12" netbooks and they hold 22% of the market O3o
thats like calling domesticated cats endangered XP

I'm having troubles finding new x86-based netbooks below 10.1". I know there are a good number of new 10.1/11.6 models on Amazon/Newegg/TigerDirect but they are dwindling. I wasn't really considering used ones, plus I rarely check ebay (though I did just sell a nice Acer A250 there )
Besides, I love the fact this little guy has no moving parts (that includes no fan either!). I've not seen any other x86 based netbooks without a fan...certainly no N270 models.

the problem is is the price gap with displays now
you have 5" (128mm) 7" (178mm) 8.9" (226mm) 10.1" (256mm) 11.6" (294.5mm) and 12.1" (307mm) screen sizes at cost .... 12.1 is only $3 more than 10.1 thats only $0.50 more than 7"
so engineers find 10.1" to be the most cost effective to get the most power in to the smallest package
not to mention anything below 10" does not test to well at all
acer and WolVol still produce 7" netbooks but the same as the mini 9 you showed a 10.1" screen can EASILY fit inside of somthing very close to the same overall size
the overall size of it is 9.13 x 6.77 x 1.06 inches ... 65 square inches
when the overall size of a Aspire One is 7.20 x 10.12 x 0.90 inches ... just the same 65 square inches at 3/4ths the production cost

I can't find any /new/ netbooks below 10.1. If you could link me to one, I'd probably buy it right off x3
But yeah, I'd almost forgotten about my Aspire ZG5. Compared to the A150 and A250's I've had, it was very difficult to distinguish a difference in size. Plus given they used the same keyboard and all, they appeared much larger than say my lil Dell Mini here.
I don't know...I mean I'm sure given the advancements in technology it would be possible to cram a 10.1" screen into this little frame and probably make it even thinner (these Dells were a bit chunky!) but there's still something about having this little 8.9" screen that really adds to its charm :3

All I can say is that's the smallest laptop/netbook I've ever seen.

Hehe x3 Well there are some smaller models out there... Fujitsu made a 5.6" tablet but at least this is still reasonably easy to find and not too uncomfortable to use
