Description
Here, have yet another pointless, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome-inducing hyperrealistic study on me. Though if you're on Tumblr you'll have already seen it...I was dusting the (electronic) dust off a whole pile of paintings I started but never finished last year, and this was the closest to completion, so I figured I might as well take it all the way. (I'd actually finished the head, but then work came to a screeching halt because I was seriously not looking forward to painting all that damn fabric fibre by fibre). Didn't fancy the original background - and I didn't want a complete reproduction anyway! - so I put London as a backdrop.
[Don't normally paint people this young *or* famous, but in this case there was so much texture to explore that I was compelled to make an attempt. Hey, at least I learnt how to paint curly hair... which has always been the bane of my existence. At least, where portraits are concerned.]
Why Benedict Cumberbatch? Because a covetous fire-breathing dragon who solves crime *and* takes on the crew of the Enterprise = win. That made no sense.
No outside textures used, because Iām an obsessive little freak. Work mostly done with a bog-standard hard round brush (though the background has some soft edge thrown in), but the fabric was done with the help of a scribbly custom brush I made to make life a little easier.

You just painted him because he played Stephen Hawking in a tv movie. Not cause of that other stuff.
And wow.

[shuffles feet awkwardly] I'd deny that it had anything to do with that, but the truth *does* happen to be that Hawking *was* the first thing I ever saw Cumberbatch in. It kinda sold me on it. His acting abilities, I mean.
Dangit, twin! get out of my head!

I KNEW IT. I had no idea who this guy was, so when I went to IMDB, and saw that in his filmography, I just knew that that was the basis.
His eyes are a little red and watery, but hey, you can't beat the name Cumberbatch.

[buries head in hands!]
And oi, Cumberbatch. I kept thinking of cucumber patches until I learnt what infinitely ruder nicks his friends had managed to come up with.

You're insane. And I don't know if I should be afraid or just awed or both.
The hair! It's just... just... *goes into awesome overload*
Happy now?

Wow - if anyone besides you posted this I would be mad that someone submitted a photo... but since it's YOU I know better
I still haven't seen the Hobbit (I am currently bribing my sister with an Imax showing when she finishes her bl***ing essay; it's been a month; I think I will go by myself) but I am Super excited about Star Trek and the last season of Sherlock at the end of the year!

I love the implication here. "Everybody else cheats, but Far is just plain freakin' insane."
And what what what, LAST SEASON OF SHERLOCK??? Only two seasons out with three episodes each, and they're ending with the third season?? There is simply not enough Sherlock sociopathic smashingness to go around.
And given that it takes me forever to reply to anything, I'm sure you must have seen The Hobbit by now...

I thought my implications were a bit more subtle than *that* don't go telling people!
Yes, When finally threatened with the DVD release of the hobbit, she finally finished her essay at 4am Thursday morning and we went on Friday
It's very sad, but true. Last season of Sherlock. Moffat's clues for the episodes were "Rat, wedding, and Bow." as in, "The Last Bow" most likely, so the forums have been going crazy. It would make sense that it is the last season, seeing as they flew through the stories previous to Reichenbach, but with Moffat you never know. I just hope there isn't any more cliffhangers..
I want to see Cumberbatch in a beekeeping outfit. Moffat already did a homage to the 'black peter' with the harpoon, I'd like to see them do one about 'The Man with the Twisted Lip' perhaps.
