Description
Here is my combination single action gallows/guillotine, hence, the gallotine. A winch in the center is used to ratchet up the guillotine blade, which is flanked by heavy lead weights, making it several times heavier than a human. A rope attached to the guillotine's rope runs over to a gallows. When the lever releases the ratchet on the winch, the heavy blade slams down, also taking the gallows rope up with it. As one victim's head is severed, the other begins an air dance.Related content

Gwyneth Paltrow should be in the guillotine to commemorate her role in Seven.
Jane Fonda should be in the gallows for her role in Cat Ballou.

That one is clever. Β Useful for executing good friends, especially if you can put a timing device on it so that the felon who is to hang can see how much longer they have. Β Ballistic perspiration should result.

This thing is pure genius, like out of a Terry Gilliam movie. It gets more and more sinister the more one looks at it.

Louis can have the guillotine side. I think it'd be fun to watch Marie dancing under the gallows for the people, while they eat their cake.

hee hee! Yes, but, marie never said "Let them eat cake..."* But, it would add to the atmosphere...
* the theory is but...a theory. Here is one fact though:
" While Marie Antoinette was certainly enough of a bubblehead to have said the phrase in question, there is no evidence that she actually did so, and in any case she did not originate it. The peasants-have-no-bread story was in common currency at least since the 1760s as an illustration of the decadence of the aristocracy. The political philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau mentions it in his Confessions in connection with an incident that occurred in 1740. (He stole wine while working as a tutor in Lyons and then had problems trying to scrounge up something to eat along with it.) He concludes thusly: "Finally I remembered the way out suggested by a great princess when told that the peasants had no bread: 'Well, let them eat cake.'" Now, J.-J. may have been embroidering this yarn with a line he had really heard many years later. But even so, at the time he was writing--early 1766--Marie Antoinette was only ten years old and still four years away from her marriage to the future Louis XVI. Writer Alphonse Karr in 1843 claimed that the line originated with a certain Duchess of Tuscany in 1760 or earlier, and that it was attributed to Marie Antoinette in 1789 by radical agitators who were trying to turn the populace against her. " (Taken from The Straight Dope.com)
Made me even more of revolutionist...

See, this is for those times when you're so surrounded by stupid people, that killing them off one at a time just isn't efficient.

I just liked the sadistic edge of this thing. Just think of if you had two good friends or lovers, and forced them to choose between themselves who was going to die which way.

True, but if all the theories about beheading are true, you'd still feel yourself as a disembodied head for a few seconds as you fly through the air and land in a basket.

by the laws of physics the guillotine blade would have to be very massive to overcome the weight of the person on the gallows... newton's laws and friction and such but neat idea

DarthWoo In reply to arteespanol [2004-12-07 05:25:26 +0000 UTC]
That's exactly why I put the extra weights on the thing. The tubes on the top of the guillotine and gallows are very well lubricated.

Oh, both of course. The real fun is right before the execution. They have their choice of methods to choose who gets which side. Coin toss, rock-paper-scissors, whichever they like.
