Perhaps this requires a bit of an explanation!You may all be aware of the musical "Love Never Dies" and my previous hatred toward it, ever since it was announced in 2007. I even met Ramin Karimloo in 2009 before he was officially on-board the project, and he told me "it's a wonderful story... one of redemption" and at first I didn't believe him.
Well, last month I saw the Melbourne (Australian) production in theaters with Anna O'Brien and Ben Lewis... It was a gorgeous production and the actors were phenomenal. All in all, I didn't hate it as much as I expected... and now that it's coming on DVD I'm actually excited to get my own copy.
I never thought I'd actually say this, but it's been growing on me... and now I actually really really like "Love Never Dies."
OH MY GOSH WHO AM I KIDDING I ADORE THE MUSIC, I'M TOTALLY OK WITH THE PLOT NOW AND I'M JUST GEEKING OUT OVER THE MELBOURNE PRODUCTION. It's like... seriously almost as good as the original.
And it was only fitting that when these gorgeous photos of Anna O'Brien came out with that red costume (sigh!) I had to draw this... I tried to tie in the original musical with Love Never Dies with the use of the carnival lights and the foggy background... looks a bit reminiscent of the Lair set up (although just a tad more romantic!)
Phew! Glad I got that all off my chest. Enjoy!!

Yeah, I really apologize if I got most of you going, but I'm NOT in love with "Love Never Dies" any more than I'm in love with Grease 2... I DID think the Melbourne production was fun to watch, but more for the laughs. So, I'll still keep this up for your enjoyment but yep, I still stand in the "haters" group, so to speak. Still, I hope you enjoyed my prank while it lasted!

so how much of your april fool's prank was true? obviously you don't "love" love never dies now, but did you enjoy seeing the Melbourne production? were the actors good? if not "excited" for the dvd, will you get one? and finally, (i'm such a bother haha) if you hated it, did you really not hate it as much as u expected, if only a little bit? forgive my natural curiosity. oh, and great piece once again. lots of passion, which i feel is right for them (regardless of which version of this pairing it's meant to represent).

Hey there! haha. Well. Most of it was true. XD But as you can see here, there was a lot of cool artistic touches done to the Melbourne production visually that I could take advantage of. I did watch it and I thought they did a much better job overall and it was actually slightly enjoyable! But I still can't stand the plot so there's no way on earth that I would like LND. XD I probably won't get the DVD but if I ever need to watch it I hope it's on Netflix.

Well I am inbetween I like the music and stuff but I don't like some parts ofmit that just don't seem like what Erik would do.......now saying this I am okay with it but if I had a choice it would NEVER exist.

WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?! Do you know? I don't care that the plot is stupid and awful and Erik and Christine and Raoul and Meg and Giry (lists off all the rest of the cast, right down to the stray cats ("CATS" x3)), I'm still gonna see it, if only for Gerard Butler. I enjoy indulging in Gerik phangirlishness (like chocolate cake, a little goes a long way.) And, hey, the 2004 movie's direction DID change a lot of aspects that were in the play versions, right? I bet you anything this time will be the same!!! (Really, can the Phantom be wimpy when Butler's playing him?!)
And if anyone (in the haters' group) questions me for it, I'll say it's to see the 2004 movie Raoul have to play a drunk. XD

I've never seen you draw Erik's expression so well, it borders realistic-art almost, that detail at least. And I luff the blushies!!! *squee*

I've pull the switch of opinion on April Fools as well in years past...I am not a major fan of Raoul, its cooled down a lot over the years but I was a fierce protector of Erik so I posted a "Raoul is the greatest and totally deserves Christine.." post a forum...it was fun to see those who knew me knew it was a joke and those who didn't who were ready to put on the fighting gloves and force me to see reason...haha....

Great April Fool, anyway, even though I see it late XD and the Australian cast, too... I've heard a pair of songs, and I can't say anything else apart from "HOLY **** THIS THING SUCKS" XD but I must admit I've downloaded the file, and will watch it with a friend, so that we may have a nice laugh together... if we manage to avoid vomiting and destroying the computer... XD

While I was reading your notes, I was beginning to wonder about your sanity as a Phan. I knew this had to be a cruel trick of nature.
(Although, I saw the same production, and yes some of the costumes were great, but I saw there dying the entire time.)

aww, i was actually really happy with the production in sydney! maybe it's because it's been refined since the melbourne run, but i enjoyed it so much! i had such low expectations tho, that might've helped hahaha. but this picture's adorable! <3

I'm sure it was much better, and I overall respect the Melbourne/Sydney productions better than the London one for trying to mend some of the issues with LND... but the main issue is the libretto. So yeah.

However, I'm just NOW recovering from the heart attack you caused.
It DID, however, spur me to watch the Melbourne production on YouTube. Enjoyed the music and the spectacle, not so much the story (duh) or characterizations.
It makes me sad that the only "nice" characters are Christine and Gustave.
