Perhaps this requires a bit of an explanation!You may all be aware of the musical "Love Never Dies" and my previous hatred toward it, ever since it was announced in 2007. I even met Ramin Karimloo in 2009 before he was officially on-board the project, and he told me "it's a wonderful story... one of redemption" and at first I didn't believe him.
Well, last month I saw the Melbourne (Australian) production in theaters with Anna O'Brien and Ben Lewis... It was a gorgeous production and the actors were phenomenal. All in all, I didn't hate it as much as I expected... and now that it's coming on DVD I'm actually excited to get my own copy.
I never thought I'd actually say this, but it's been growing on me... and now I actually really really like "Love Never Dies."
OH MY GOSH WHO AM I KIDDING I ADORE THE MUSIC, I'M TOTALLY OK WITH THE PLOT NOW AND I'M JUST GEEKING OUT OVER THE MELBOURNE PRODUCTION. It's like... seriously almost as good as the original.
And it was only fitting that when these gorgeous photos of Anna O'Brien came out with that red costume (sigh!) I had to draw this... I tried to tie in the original musical with Love Never Dies with the use of the carnival lights and the foggy background... looks a bit reminiscent of the Lair set up (although just a tad more romantic!)
Phew! Glad I got that all off my chest. Enjoy!!

Yeah, I really apologize if I got most of you going, but I'm NOT in love with "Love Never Dies" any more than I'm in love with Grease 2... I DID think the Melbourne production was fun to watch, but more for the laughs. So, I'll still keep this up for your enjoyment but yep, I still stand in the "haters" group, so to speak. Still, I hope you enjoyed my prank while it lasted!

Yeah, the Melbourne production is an improvement over the original LND. The music is great, at least.

Lovely work here! I admit as well that I did like some of the costumes in LND, particularly this red one.

Thought you might end up liking it if you saw the australian production. You can't help but like it. The sets and the costumes are to die for. Only wished ramin was filmed in that production.

I can actually see the actor resemblances!
And personally I find that as fun as the show is to dump on sometimes, it really is quite good, and it grows on you like a small child clinging to your leg until you can't hold it any longer, you just have to stand on a table and scream, "I LOVE LOVE NEVER DIES!!!", consequences be darned.

i feel the same way! every part of me wants to hate it, but the music's amazing and the story isn't as bad as i thought it would be and, even though there are a few parts that i think should be changed because they don't seem to fit the characters much, i love it. i'm constantly kicking myself for loving it, but i can't help it.

At first I was also firmly against the sequel of Phantom. But when I heard the music, I thought I give it a try, even though I didn't like the storyline. Saw the production in London in 2010. It was nice, but yet I didn't like it as the sequel for Phantom. I think many Phantom fans agree with me that ALW destroyed the characters and the storyline. I've even read better fanfictions!
But then the Australian version came into picture. When I first saw the production photo's I was jumping of my seat. My first reaction: NOW THIS IS PHANTOM PEOPLE!
A few weeks ago the dvd of Love Never Dies has been released in The Netherlands. Bought it the next day and watched it. All I can say, I WAS BLOWN AWAY. IT"S SO BEAUTYFULL! The Australian version has more the Phantom feeling just as in the original. Now if this version had his premiere in London, it would have been a big succes! Hopefully ALW would consider to bring this version back, cause he and many others agrees that the Australian LND is the rightfull sequel of Phantom.
