Description phew. This represents months of work, really. After reading the book several times, one needs more than a mental picture of how everything is laid out. So... I got together with a friend of mine and figured out at least one way Erik's lair could be arranged... and I rather like it like this. If you read any scene in the book that takes place in his lair, I think it matches up with this set up...

But I'm posting this so everyone can give me an A-OK. Once I feel like this is the plan I want to stick with, I can begin long-awaited comic strips and such.

Please comment, and don't be afraid to challenge my ideas... they are merely ideas! I want to make my future Leroux-based drawings as accurate as possible, so I would appreciate criticism and any other ideas you may have. One thing I especially fear is that I don't have the right furniture in some areas... I tried to stay close to the time period... but... I don't know how to set up furniture.

Here are some extra notes:

Erik and Christine can be seen from a bird's eye view (or rather, a rat's?) about to enter the drawing room.
The gray floor you see in the hallway and Erik's bathroom is NOT stone/cave floor. It is gray marble.
The yellow floor in the drawing room represents carpet, as does the red floor in Erik's bedroom and the Louis-Philippe room. The brown floor in the dining room is wood. The pale floor in Christine's bathroom is tile. I should have made square tiles...
And of course, there are secret passageways and such that I don't plan on drawing out. Even I cannot begin to fathom all of Erik's "secrets"....

**UPDATE**: I just added a kitchen. It's tough drawing furniture from a rat's view, but there's a large counter top with a sink, shelves with kitchenware inside of them, and a stove/oven.

Aww man, this is so very, very cool. The animated TV movie might be the only version that did it where it was truly a house on a lake.

how does the torture chamber work?

It's a hextagonal chamber with walls made of mirrors, reflecting a single iron tree and noose to look like a forest, and on the ground is sand. Now, that alone woulnd mess with the head, but Erik can turn on basically a sunlamp, and with the sand absorbing the heat and the mirror reflecting the light, it feels like a Persian desert. Most hang themselves if they don't escape (only two ever did).

So, a couple years ago, when I was in 6th grade art class, we had to draw a house and furniture etc. in it right? So, my art teacher has always been a total jerk anyways but I can put up with her (once I cut my finger on a carving tool and she said "I thought I TOLD you to be more careful!") So I decide to draw Erik's house with his coffin and everything. Well, a week later she called my dad in to tell him she was worried about my "Mental Health" or something like that... *Facepalm* My dad pwned herΒ by saying I was drawing something from phantom. Sigh.

Well the opera house already exists so that would be very pointless. This is not based off the musical which made up it's own opera house this is based off the novel which used the real Palais Garnier.
You can see a model of the whol entire house cut in half right here:Β www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&…

Below the stage you can see the real life zig zagging cellars which lead down into what is known as a "cistern". A sort of underground structure made to store water. See when the opera house was built they need to build cellars as you do with all buildings. But they ran into a problem. While tunneling down the river Sein began pouring it's water into the cellars. So they built a cistern. A special type of set of canals and arches to store the water inside. This is where Erik was supposedly supposed to have built his house near.
You can actually get to tour the whole Opera house here on google street view:Β www.google.com/maps/place/Pala…

You can use the numbers on the right side of the screen to move to different floor levels.
Most importantly there is a separate street view map of the cistern:Β www.google.com/maps/place/Pala…

aw that's sweet!

Just to give you a comfort... I've met many people over the 7 or so years of my phantom obsession, and I can tell you that when I had NO Phantom friends it was awesome having online friends. It can still be fun. As long as the friends you have don't smother you. Just be yourself, but you might have to tone down the POTO around them, for their sake. Still, I have several friends who have never even seen POTO and I haven't tried. It's just that way!

But along the way I've also met several people who ADORE POTO and they are my friends. Sadly, that does NOT make them your best friends. They still let you down, and people come and go in your life. So I hope you find a POTO friend one day to share your interests and you guys can gush about Erik all day! Fun times. But that doesn't guarantee a friend will still stick with you, even if they share your interests. Just find someone who appreciates you for who you are!

For me, I can ALWAYS count on Jesus. I'm blessed to have a wonderful family, too, who listen to me (most of the time) when I rant about my silly obsessions. But Jesus knows me through and through and he loves me for who I am! He himself gave me my gifts and interests, for a purpose.

DarthxErik In reply to molly798465 [2012-06-15 15:49:11 +0000 UTC]

this is actually a messed-up layout. I'll be updating it one of these days. For this layout though I only had one door leading to the rest of the house through the dining room. But this is all incorrect since the drawing room and the Louis-Philippe room are one and the same.

This is WONDERFUL! I've tried to do something like this for ages... and never managed, of course.
It's similar to what I've always had in my mind, since I read the book. Actually in my head there was nothing really precise, so I can't say it's PERFECTLY like the one I imagined... but similar.

But... but. I think there should be some more rooms... like a laboratory of some sort, for his scientific studies... because he's a scientist among the other things, isn't he?.. and a library (yes, I imagine Erik has a room ONLY for books, for I imagine him as an intellectual too). And a room for the instruments. Yes, yes... a room ONLY filled with instruments. I mean, if he's written an opera, he must have at least all the instruments of an orchestra... not to mention all the other instruments he must have known (and bought/stolen) all around the world... and then, think of it: at a certain point of the book Leroux says that he takes a harp to sing with Christine. He... TAKES... a harp.
Let's talk about this.
A harp is damn big... heavy... you don't TAKE harp, a harp is there in a certain point of the room, and you start playing it when you want to. Like a piano. You don't TAKE a piano when you want to play it, do you?
Damn, that man makes me mad... >_<
Anyway, I think he needs a room with instruments. A room where the harp was before he took it (... he TOOK it!!). Or maybe, a big big room with two walls full of books, two walls full of instruments, and a sofa of some sort, and a table. And maybe a fireplace?.. I don't know, he doesn't seem the chilly type...

And anyway, why do you think he built Christine's room in the first place? He lived there for like 10, maybe 15 years, so he didn't even know of Christine's existence... so why did he build that room?
Ahh, that man is a mystery...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DarthxErik In reply to Keyra93 [2012-06-26 03:38:53 +0000 UTC]

I really want to do this over. Because I recently discovered by reading my REAL unabridged version of the novel that the Louis-Phillipe room is the same as the drawing room! BOOM. So this is a false layout.

IDK if he's really a scientist... but a good workspace, like a desk, and some more stuff would b eneat. Library in the Louis Phillipe room would be neat.

HAHA i love the instrument idea. Stuff from persia for sure! A HARP? YES. I have to draw Erik at a harp now. GAHHHHHHHHHH

actually a fireplace i was going to say. Idk how that works underground but why not?

I think he just converted his "living room" into the guest room for her. idk.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Keyra93 In reply to DarthxErik [2012-06-26 11:16:10 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I don't know why but I can't find my comment on your work, and I don't really remember what I wrote... but whatever xD
Oh my God D: they're the same room? Why don't I get these things while reading?.. I have to read it all again! (Such a wonderful idea *.*)
Library in the Louis Philippe room? Yeah, if it's the drawing room, that's neat. (And that means that Erik has to be in Christine's bedroom to fetch books... that's gonna destroy him XD)
Yay for stuff from Persia! And what do you think is the style of his furniture?
And YES draw Erik with a harp, I'd LOVE to see him drawn by you ** (but even Loki's fine, don't worry )
Well a fireplace can work if the pipes are long enough and well made. And Erik can do everything, of course!
Yeah, I guess that is the thing. So Erik has no more living room... where do they play the piano? (I'm not sure about English names of the rooms... is the living room the room where a piano should be?)
