Description I beg of you, fellow phans in London: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT see this bloody musical when it opens in '09. If not for our sake, then, for Erik's sake...

Don't let Andrew get a single penny from this little experiment of his. Hopefully his doteful mind will return to its former decency and respect for the character of Erik, whom he once cherished and admired.

I hope I'm not making too big of a deal out of this... but I truly find this all to be very sickening. I can't help getting very defensive when I see my favorite story and characters get butchered by the very man who helped to introduce the tale to me in the first place. Instead of degrading Erik and making himself look like a laughable mess, Andrew should quit making these musicals while he's ahead. He has my permission to retire and he can have my word that if he forgets all about this little business, so will I. No one will ever mention it again, and we'll all live as if it never happened.

Oh, how I hope he comes to his senses.

Still, if he doesn't....

... we phans will not lose heart. We know who Erik is-- whether it be the original psychotic genius from the novel, or the Erik created by Andrew himself; we won't see that image die-- and I will be sure to tell my kids about THAT Erik.

{I love Phantom to death. I have nothing against the movie, but I prefer the stage play and the original book by Gaston Leroux for many reasons. All of this to say: The plot for the sequel destroys the characters, and in many ways... doesn't make sense. The Phantom of the Opera is not a sappy story with a happy ending. It's a tragic tale about love and despair. A continuation after the dramatic ending to the movie/play wouldn't fit. It's like Jack coming back to life in a sequel to the Titanic. }

Again, perhaps I'm taking this all a little too far. Apologies. Please leave a comment....

"I can't help getting very defensive when I see my favorite story and characters get butchered by the very man who helped to introduce the tale to me in the first place." I couldn't have put it better myself. Preach it girl!

I heard that Andrew Lloyd Webber said that LND shouldn't be seen as a sequel but more as an individual piece. To say the true I barely can see it as an individual piece as far as I've known the POTO already. I have to say LND has some nice songs, Ben Lewis has very good acting skills, voices of acors are amazing, decorations, costumes and so on are great but I don't quite like the plot. I personally think that POTO story is over, finished, bye-bye and that's why I love POTO - as it's FINISHED (both musical and Leroux' book). LND has some good sides as a show but no one good side as a sequel. I have mixed feelings about it.

Yes he has. This is why I (for the most part) DESPISE sequels. It is NOT canon and no one can convince me otherwise.

I have read the plot, but I couldn't bring myself to actually seeing it...
I mean, fuck, so unbelievable!
WHY would Erik want to start a FREAK show to even begin with!? HE, out of ALL people?!
And go to Manhattan!? He, who alsmost faints by the idea of leaving the opera house, let alone the country and the CONTINENT?
And Gustave... HIS SON!? Just because he can play well and likes dark places? When I was ten I liked dark places too, in fact I preferred night over day, and okay, I was no piano genius, but I always strot around sining (I still do), but does that make ME the phantoms daughter (if he were real)...? :/ man, get a gene test done!
And yeah, in fanfics and comics I like seeing Erik and Chris' together, but NOT in an actual 'serious' sequel! It's more a joke actually, not like they really are or will be... it ruins the entire story.
And Raoul was what, a drunk!? A gambler!? As much I can say that Erik and Christine 'should have been together', I still don't HATE Raoul. I mean, he's a fine guy, who REALLY loves her, not some sort of an evil creep (that role belonged to the phantom, lol ), okay, dumbass dick, but still not... just... NO!
Sir Lloyd Webber, I LOVE your POTO musical, I LOVE the scores you wrote for it, but this, THIS 'creation', goes one step TOO far!!

I agree with you, no worries. At first, I was totally thrown off like, "What? Sequel?" and I read about it online and I have decided I'll happily never see it. I can't believe they butchered the ending that way....

You don't have to screw the sequel, it was a rippoff of the original story. Phantom of the Opera came out in 1909, Love Never Dies was let out 2010. I wasn't quite fond of it either, but the sequel dosn't have nessisarily happen.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

LOL I said the same about Titanic to describe LND! And yes you're right. Poor Phantom. "Hey you can be with Christine like... 10 minutes. Then she'll be shot, fine?"... just... what cruel mind could think that???

The music was inevitably going to be good (It's ALW) but I just can't get over the horrific plot and how it destroys what the original Phantom was....

RedDeath-OG [2012-03-09 22:25:43 +0000 UTC]

i'm sorry, but i think everyone gives LND way too much crap. it's got a good story and excellent music. the only problem with it is the way it changes the character's personalities. ALW even said LND was supposed to be more of it's own thing. they tried to write it as if it was something completely different, just keeping some parts of POTO in mind. i understand why you don't like it, i've got some issues with it too, but on its own it's a good musical.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

DarthxErik In reply to RedDeath-OG [2012-06-26 20:23:05 +0000 UTC]

good story?

music I can agree with. Not nearly as good as the original (it's like comparing Disney Channel music to Mozart).

But yes, I have the most problems with the characters... character-depth is everything.

Unfortunately, they said those things just so people who haven't seen POTO or don't remember it too well give it a chance. But later on they smacked the POTO logo mask on to the LND posters, kept comparing it and saying it's "better" than POTO, and even put bits of the original score in. And blatantly calling it a sequel. It IS a sequel. But anyhow. I don't understand why anyone who doesn't like POTO would even come close to it, or how anyone who DOES like POTO could let so much slide. It's too messy.

But I respect your opinion. It's fun enough to watch and make fun of, I'll give it that. XD

RedDeath-OG In reply to DarthxErik [2012-06-26 22:51:09 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean, "Good story?"? I am 99.99% positive that if LND was not associated to POTO at all people would like the story a lot more. I get that a lot of things change, but it has been ten years. I'm not saying the characters would change so drastically, but ten years is a long time. People do change as they grow up and have more life experiance. I'm not "letting it slide", I'm embracing what it is. Another fantastic musical by ALW. I know LND has it's problems, but it isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Godmusic [2012-03-03 14:36:01 +0000 UTC]

I am agree. have you read Susan kayยดs book, "Phantom"?? I think that it is the second, after the leroux book

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

DarthxErik In reply to Godmusic [2012-06-26 20:23:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes! It's not bad. I rather enjoyed bits of it. Some areas of it were kind of disturbing. But it lets you get inside Erik's head, so it was neat.

oh you know i'm kind of being harsh and cold about it, but yeah I don't like LND... one bit. Maybe TIHYS is a good song and it's sort of a guilty pleasure (look how I turned it into a source of hilarity for this comic!) but otherwise, yeahhhhh.....

I don't usually read fanfics-- i promise i'm not snooty i just don't have time!-- and just reading the first page I'm not 100% interested in diving into this one just yet... but if you want to you could tell me which chapter the description is in...?

hmmm sounds like a pig...? interesting. i think the person meant to describe Erik's deformity from Leroux's original novel or something. Kind of a combo of the movie and the silent film.

The fanfic kind of confuses me so far...... lol!
