I beg of you, fellow phans in London: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT see this bloody musical when it opens in '09. If not for our sake, then, for Erik's sake...Don't let Andrew get a single penny from this little experiment of his. Hopefully his doteful mind will return to its former decency and respect for the character of Erik, whom he once cherished and admired.
I hope I'm not making too big of a deal out of this... but I truly find this all to be very sickening. I can't help getting very defensive when I see my favorite story and characters get butchered by the very man who helped to introduce the tale to me in the first place. Instead of degrading Erik and making himself look like a laughable mess, Andrew should quit making these musicals while he's ahead. He has my permission to retire and he can have my word that if he forgets all about this little business, so will I. No one will ever mention it again, and we'll all live as if it never happened.
Oh, how I hope he comes to his senses.
Still, if he doesn't....
... we phans will not lose heart. We know who Erik is-- whether it be the original psychotic genius from the novel, or the Erik created by Andrew himself; we won't see that image die-- and I will be sure to tell my kids about THAT Erik.
{I love Phantom to death. I have nothing against the movie, but I prefer the stage play and the original book by Gaston Leroux for many reasons. All of this to say: The plot for the sequel destroys the characters, and in many ways... doesn't make sense. The Phantom of the Opera is not a sappy story with a happy ending. It's a tragic tale about love and despair. A continuation after the dramatic ending to the movie/play wouldn't fit. It's like Jack coming back to life in a sequel to the Titanic. }
Again, perhaps I'm taking this all a little too far. Apologies. Please leave a comment....

ugh. I seriously felt SICK to my stomach when I first read the bit about the automaton.
I considered for a while there that my sources might be faulty... I mean, how can I trust a reporter who spoke mostly of getting drunk on andrew's wine all day? maybe the wine clouded their vision and what looked like Erik pouncing on the automaton was really an over-exaggeration??
Or.... maybe not.

I thought it was a prank. -_- Yeah, it's... it's just really messed up. And then I told my friend and she just very quietly went over to the wall and started beating her head against it. Hilarious... but also sad. XD

The only cool thing about the RE POTO is the flowing cape and the Don Juan aria. That's not even long enough, but whatever...

I don't think you're taking it too seriously. D: A lot, well...in fact, most of the fans despise the idea. All the characters are horribley out of character, and it makes feel ill. >>; Raoul is a wife beating drunkard? Erik runs a circus and makes love to an autmoaton? Christine falls for the same thing again? ...It all sounds like a horrible fanfic run rampant and free. [Yes, I nearly quoted "Alive" in that sentence...xD] But I'm not going to watch that thing even if I was paid. *shakes her head* What people do to make a buck...

There's nothing wrong with ranting about something you don't like. You have the right to express your opinion. And heck, I rant sometimes too...*glances at ranty journals* I didn't scream, but I DID sit there with this: "WHAT. THE. HECK?!" look on my face.

Well just how do you know that? Have you watched the performance? Judge it when you have seen it. Boycotting it isn't gonna work. There are so many fans who want to see what happens. I myself want to see it in 2011 when it comes to New York. Plus, I have listened to the music and I think ut's really good! Besides, the phantom is well respected on the island.
However, I have found some flaws..... In the story, Christine's son is named Charly, NOT Gustave and the timing is a bit wrong, but that's just the original story that makes the times incorrect.
Despite the flaws, I love the voice of the singer who is csted a Erik! He has the exact voice I would think is perfect for the phantom! He and Sierra Boggess are really talented singers! Give Love Never Dies a chance!

I made those judgements based off of being well informed. I got the soundtrack weeks before most people did and read the synopsis well in advance. It's not that the effects and the actors won't be spectacular or entertaining, it's just the story that I can't embrace. I'd probably go see it if I got free tickets or something, but I wouldn't pay for front row!
Christine's son is named Charles only in the Susan Kay novel, and I guess in other versions. But in ALW's version, it's up in the air.
If LND is a supposed sequel, then shouldn't it be based on the original? "just the original story makes the times incorrect" is a worrisome statement.
Oh Ramin Karimloo? Man, I adore that guy. I saw him in the original last year and he remains one of my favorite phantoms of all time. He's great. Sierra is also great, especially as the Little Mermaid. I also have that soundtrack.
I've given many aspects of it a chance. My inner Erik says "no way, jose."
