In the decade that Ajax has been around, he has seen and been through many things. Because of this, he tries to live day to day knowing that at any moment life can change drastically. Why be grumpy about the biting flies when you can instead be thankful for the warmth that chases away the cold? While Ajax tries to remain optimistic, he remains grounded in reality.

Ajax is a friend to all, especially those in need - be they horse or otherwise. If someone else does him a favor, Ajax will never forget it. Though, he may forget their name. His old head injury often gives him trouble with recalling names and faces, leading to some awkward moments.

As the years have gone by, Ajax has gotten a bit less tolerant of pesky bachelors. He’ll still try to talk them down rather than fight, and try to give them some life advice after a good ‘schooling’, but more often than not he’s found these gestures to be falling on deaf ears. While he reminds himself that he was once a thick headed young stud as well, some days he just is tired of dealing with their antics. On the other hand, when he’s challenged by an experienced or truly hostile stallion, Ajax doesn’t hold back. While he won't go in for a finishing or truly crippling blow, he will fight for his family and give his all.

For Ajax, his family is his entire world. He loves, truly and deeply, his mares. They aren’t just possessions to him and their feelings and thoughts matter to him. While he can be a bit of a flirt and charmer, Ajax is also very respectful. Though, in recent years he’s had to face up to some of the mares he’s had passing flings with and the children that have never known him as a father. It’s been a tough pill to swallow, but it’s opened Ajax’s eyes to his own behavior and made him a better partner and father because of it.

The only thing second to his ladies are his children - both blood related and not. If he takes in a young foal or a pregnant mare, that foal is treated the same as any of his real children. The safety, well being and happiness of his foals is top priority, and it's a common sight to see the big stallion playing like a colt himself with his foals.

While Ajax doesn’t believe in some great deity controlling their everyday lives, he does believe in fate. Others might call it happenstance, but to Ajax some coincidences are just too eerily perfect. To him, some things, be they good or bad, are just meant to be. The bad things often lead to better outcomes down the path. It might just be his way of giving life reason, but it's something he believes strongly in.

If there was one thing he wished he could understand better, it would be humans. He’s seen both good and bad in them, learned to trust in one during his last capture, but also seen the pain and suffering they can cause. In some ways, they remind him of horses, their motivations not all that different seeming - but most of the time their actions just make no sense. Even after long talks with Fancy and Cheyenne, both who were born and raised among humans, the wild stallion finds himself ever perplexed by the two-leggeds.

History:
The first born son of Neptune, an old, cruel stallion who ruled his hoof with an iron hoof, Ajax had a lot of expectations placed upon him. Born frail and weak, his father would have killed him then and there had it not been for his mother. While he grew stronger and bigger with time, Ajax still remained a rather unimpressive specimen and he continued to fail to meet his wicked father’s unrealistic and unreasonable demands. It crushed the young colt, but he never stopped trying and he never complained, hoping one day to be worthy in his father’s eyes.

Then the following year another son was born. This one strong and sturdy from birth, his dark pelt a near spitting image of their father. Ajax saw the look in his father’s eyes and knew he was as good as dead. Now with a ‘better’ son to teach and pass down the herd to, there was no need for Ajax.

Despite his mother’s protests, Ajax was viciously chased from the herd. The yearling was run for miles, his father decorating his pelt in bites whenever he began to lag. Neptune was determined to rid his stain from the world, and he nearly got his wish as Ajax was forced to leap into a river to escape his sire. The strong current swept the exhausted yearling downstream as he struggled to keep his head above the water. The last thing he saw was his father’s wicked grin as the stallion merely watched his son be washed away.

This was when Ajax first felt fate’s touch on his life. The drowning yearling was caught in the branches of a fallen tree, giving him a chance to get out of the water. He collapsed on the bank, too exhausted to stand. Hours later he was found by a small band of bachelors who had come down for a drink. They took the colt in, caring for him like a real family should.

Ajax flourished among his bachelor friends, the small, timid colt growing into a large, confident stud in just a couple years. His herd mates were like brothers, and he felt like he finally belonged. His strength increased with every spar, every scar, every fight taught him valuable lessons about life. Soon, he was leading the herd as a three year old and it seemed like life couldn’t get any better from there.

But, Ajax felt a longing for a family of his own growing in his chest. While it was all fun and games trying to woo mares with his bachelor buddies, only to be chased off by their band stallion, Ajax found himself watching those herds more and more. Passing flings with mares he managed to charm but failed to hang onto only made his desire to lead a real herd that much harder to ignore. Finally, after an almost deathly fight with someone that used to be a close friend, Ajax decided to leave the bachelor herd life behind.

As it would turn out, growing a herd of his own was a lot harder than he expected. Most mares weren’t willing to follow such a young stallion, and even when he could charm a few he struggled to hang onto them in the face of more mature stallions. As the seasons changed but his luck didn’t, it became increasingly more frustrating and demotivating for the young stallion. There were many times when he even considered returning to his old bachelor band with his deflated ego, but he was too stubborn to do so. Then fate bestowed a gift upon him - an old mare that had been abandoned by her herd when she’d fallen ill.

Ajax felt a connection with her, understanding her pain and mistrust after being rejected and abandoned for something she couldn’t control. He protected and cared for her, gaining her trust with his efforts and kindness. In return, she taught him all the knowledge she had learned in nearly three decades of life and time as a lead mare of multiple herds. The young stallion eagerly absorbed her words, trying his hardest to be a better leader and stallion than his father ever had been. She was the one that talked to him about fate and how it played a part in the lives of all living things. They were together for many months, but as the winter turned bitterly cold and long it became clear that the mare was not going to make it. Her old and frail body just couldn’t handle it, even with Ajax’s help and warmth.

For a while after her death, Ajax wandered aimlessly. He felt lost without her guidance and her companionship. It wasn’t until Ajax found himself in the old range of his birth herd that he seemed to snap out of it. There, he felt that fire in him reignite. He remembered his vow to be a better stallion than his father had been, to lead a big herd with kindness instead of fear, to be a real father to his foals and give them a better life than he had.

In the years following his return to the valley, Ajax had seen his fair share of ups and downs. He met the love of his life and together they began to grow the herd. It didn’t take long for his herd of two to grow to four and then eight. Within just a couple years, Ajax found himself leading a large family and fathering many foals of his own. Humans and other stallions tried multiple times to take his family from him, but he’s fought hard to hold onto those he loves. He hasn’t always been successful, and each loss is another wound to his heart, but he doesn’t let it take him away from the family he still has.

Still, the most recent blow was the worst yet. He was stolen away from his family and spent months with the humans as they tried to tame him. It nearly worked too, but with help from friends he made at the ranch and those on the outside, Ajax was able to escape with them. Now he’s traveling across the valley, searching for his herd while trying to keep his band of misfits together. He’s determined to get home to those he loves the most, and nothing is going to stop him if it's the last thing he does.

Relationships:
Myrtle - Soulmate - From the moment that he laid eyes on her, he considered her his angel. She had only just met him, yet she cared for him while he could barely stand. He asked her to stay, and the rest is history. Myrtle is his rock, her sweet nature soothing him when his mind is troubled. When he was captured, she was the one horse he missed the most.
Estraya - Lead Mare - His trusted lead mare, Ajax’s faith in Estraya has rarely wavered throughout the years they’ve been together. Although they’ve butted heads on occasion, he still considers her judgment to be sound. He loves her nearly as much as Myrtle, and he has complete faith that she’s kept the herd together in his absence.
Robin - Lover/Foalhood Friend - Growing up together, Robin was the only foal who really spent any time with him. She also was the one that got him into trouble the most by sneaking off together to play. When she reappeared in his life, it was like seeing a ghost. They both had strong feelings towards each other, but Ajax quickly noticed just how jealous she could get. It annoyed him that she tried to use their history to gain a higher position in his herd, and he's had to confront her about it, especially when she tried to fight Estraya. Thankfully she's mellowed out with time.
Juniper - Close Friend/Maybe more? - First, she saved his daughter, then she saved him. Ajax couldn’t consider Juniper anymore of a hero if he tried. She’s amazing in his eyes, power and beauty in one package. He only wishes that she’d see how wonderful she was. After she rescued him from the humans, he began realizing there might just be something between them, but he’s too afraid to lose her to say anything yet.
Cheyenne - Lover? - She was there for him when he was feeling hopeless and alone. She listened to his troubles, and he listened to hers. They bonded quite closely while in captivity, and that hasn’t wavered since their escape. She’s brave and proud, yet melts when there are foals around. He hasn’t said it yet, but he knows he loves her and suspects the feeling is mutual.
Finn - Son - Despite what Finn often thinks, Ajax is endlessly proud of him. It doesn’t upset or bother Ajax that his son is not a big, tough stallion like him. What makes Ajax the happiest is seeing his foals grow up, find someone they can hold close to their heart, and treat them right. Although Finn stumbled a bit at first, Ajax knows that he’s dedicated to Fancy.
Isabelle - Complicated - Ajax was well aware of Izzy's infatuation with Finn, but he figured she'd get over it eventually. What he hadn't really expected was her to come to him for a foal. Though she gave him some solid reasons, he still suspects that it was an attempt to make his son jealous. He hopes he's wrong, or that she'll settle down once she has her foal. Only time will tell.
Gemini - Ex-Lover - If their relationship hadn’t been complicated before, it certainly was now. Ajax doesn’t know how to feel about Gemini anymore. He really thought they were going to rekindle their love and that she was going to return to the herd with him, but now she’s out there somewhere carrying his unborn foal. He is somewhat angry that she was so stubborn about leaving, but recognises that it was her choice in the end.
Libra - Daughter - Probably his biggest regret is that he didn’t get a chance to really know his daughter. He knows it's his fault, and it frustrates him that they left on such a sour note. He hopes they’ll have another chance someday and that it will go better the second time.
Koh - Best Friend - Since the day they met, Ajax has felt a brotherly bond with Koh. Their mindsets and morales are similar, making it easy for the two to get along. Whenever he gets wind of his friend, Ajax makes an attempt to go see him. Lately though, Ajax has found himself in a bit of an awkward spot with both mares and daughters of his buddy finding their way to his herd.
Kolette - Lover - Although their time together was short, it was powerful. Sometimes, the strongest flames burn the shortest. She didn’t just fill a hole in his heart, she made her own place in it. He hopes they’ll see each other again soon, and maybe when they do he’ll be meeting their foal.
