Description

Name: Fletcher
Height: 14.3hh
Age: 5

Personality: Brave and foolhardy, Fletcher is a horse that favors action over words. While this sometimes leads to him having to sit through a lecture from Camilla, it has also made him the hero on more than one occasion. This is not to say that the young stallion is stupid, in fact, Fletcher is rather cunning - though he usually keeps his thoughts and plans to himself. Despite what others often feel, he does actually try to think things through before he jumps headlong into trouble. Just because he knows the risks, doesn’t mean he isn’t afraid to take the chance.

Fletcher’s stubborn, cocky attitude gets him into trouble on a daily basis, especially with some of his more strong willed mares. He’s a major flirt and will regularly pester his mares. Fletcher is the type of stallion to be possessive about his mares, making him cautious around other stallions. A bit shallow, he tends to value looks over personality, which has come back to bite him in the past with mare’s like Bellatrix. This also has led to some contention with Ziva fighting for his attention with other mares if she feels like he is giving them too much attention. While this can be an ego stroke for him, it also can be very disruptive and obnoxious, requiring him to intervene.

Although Fletcher is the leader, he is rather lazy and would rather his lead mare handle everything. He stays out of the mare politics unless things get violent or annoying for him. Empathy isn’t Fletcher’s strong suit, so long as something doesn’t affect him, he really couldn’t care less. Fletcher takes a similar approach to his foals. Although Ajax was a great role model and father figure to Fletcher, the young stallion struggles to really bond with his foals the way Ajax does. There are times when Fletcher just feels uncomfortable around his own foals, almost scared that he’s going to hurt them, so in general he keeps his distance.

Despite his bold and extroverted appearance, Fletcher doesn’t really open up and has built tall walls around his heart. He was taught that to show vulnerability is to show weakness, so he bottles up and represses ‘softer’ emotions. It also makes him incredibly awkward when someone else opens up to him or cries. He’ll try to offer comfort the way he saw Ajax do, but he struggles to be genuine about it.
When it comes to how he handles his mares, Fletcher believes that mares should be faithful to their lead stallions - though he is a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to other’s mares. He doesn’t miss a chance to try to woo or steal another stallion’s mare. If a stallion isn’t watchful, then it's the stallion’s fault the mare is stolen or bred by another. Yet, he expects that his mares will remain loyal to him, and that, between him and Bentley, he’ll catch any stallion that tries to steal his ladies.

History: Fletcher’s known history starts when he and Dustan ran into Ajax’s herd as yearlings. His life before then is a poorly woven web of lies. Sometimes he says that his herd was captured and he fought off a human to escape, other times he says he got separated during a bad storm, or that a stallion killed his father and chased him out. No one, not even Ziva, knows the truth. Fletcher is very tight lipped about it, usually joking or brushing further inquiries off. If someone presses him, he may snap at them to mind their own business.

Some minor details have slipped out from time to time, and others have drawn their own conclusions from Fletcher’s behavior. It’s clear that he didn’t have a great father figure, and given that he’s said he and his mother changed herds a lot it’s not surprising. It seems like Ajax was the only father figure Fletcher had and he does look up to him, even if now he seems like he considers him a rival.

Fletcher’s greatest bane to his leadership is Bentley and Chloe. Having to take in the couple along with Ziva after the fight with Ajax was not at all in his plans. He wouldn’t have minded Chloe, figuring that eventually he could win her over with the help of her sister, but not with Bentley around. Though the other stallion is fairly obedient, his mare is not and often voices her opinion on how he treats Bentley. If Fletcher had it his way, both would be gone, but he knows it won't be that easy. He doesn’t take Ajax’s threat lightly.

Since the birth of his first foals, Fletcher has felt the mounting pressure to step up and be both a father and a leader. It's been a real struggle, especially as he gains more mares and as they fall pregnant. There are days where he regrets his choice to have a herd, having not realized just how much work it was going to be. Yet, he is determined to succeed, continue his legacy, and show those that doubt him that he is a great leader. That he’s not the failure they said he was.

Relationships:
Ziva - First Crush - From the moment the two met, it was clear to Fletcher that the filly had become smitten with him, and it wasn’t long before that feeling became mutual. He loved showing off for her and he adored her playful and strong personality. It seemed like a good match and he promised her that they’d start a herd someday. Then, they were separated by the humans. Those long months searching for her and the herd had been hard and he struggled to remain hopeful, and with more mares to care for he began to move on from her. When they finally found each other again, it was like something out of a romance story. Alas, real life is often far more complicated and the couple have had their struggles. Ziva’s jealousy often causes problems for Fletcher with the other mares, and she can be quite dramatic at times. Still, Ziva is always by his side and though they don’t always agree, he’s glad to have her with him.

Ajax - Mentor/Rival - After his fight with Ajax, Fletcher was left with mixed feelings about the horse he’d looked up to for so long. While he does still admire the stallion, he is also envious of him and of what he has. He is determined to grow stronger and this time win the fight, perhaps overthrowing him and gaining his beautiful mares. Yet, deep down he knows that wouldn’t be right and scolds himself for such thoughts. So far, his respect for the only real father figure he ever had is greater than his greed.

Bentley - Rival - From the time they first met, Fletcher had looked down at the wimpy stallion. He was meek and mild, not wanting to spar or showing any real interest in normal ‘stallion’ activities. That, coupled with the fact that the stallion had the complete and unwavering attention of the more beautiful filly of the herd struck a nerve with Fletcher. His dislike for the stallion only worsened when he was forced to take him on as a lieutenant stallion. Fletcher has found it almost satisfying in forcing the stallion to patrol almost constantly and stand guard in bad weather. Eventually, Fletcher hopes to force the stallion out in a way that won't cause him grief with Ajax later, but for now he tolerates his presence.

Chloe - Complicated - Fletcher would be lying if he said he didn’t have eyes for the beautiful mare, but she’s made it painfully clear that she’s not interested in him. It annoys the hell out of Fletcher when he sees her and Bentley being all lovey. When he tries to take out his anger and jealousy on Bentley, he then has to deal with an earful from Chloe and occasionally Ziva, as the sisters remain close. Fletcher has mixed feelings about Chloe, on one side he’d like to keep her for himself, on the other he’d like to just kick the couple out and be done with them.

Camilla - Complicated - Camilla is a source of knowledge, stability and irritation for Fletcher. She’s been a great lead mare, and she’s surely taught him a lot about how to be a leader. In a weird way, she has at times been a mother figure to him - though most of the time she’s more like a boss. Her sour personality is an acquired taste, but he’s come to almost find it amusing. He’ll push her buttons sometimes, just to see her reaction. He’ll often get lectures about his behavior, which sometimes he deserves other times he doesn’t. He doesn’t hate her, but he’d rather one of the other mares he likes more take her place so he wouldn’t have to fight about his decisions anymore.
