Done for Dominance War IV's mini competition: 2D side of things, GameArtisans.org forum. We had to make portraits of generals.

Had a blast doing this one. While I was working on it, I came up with a story for the character... What's that? Don't wanna hear it? Too bad!

The fictional Amazon society that she would be a part of are primarily a gaggle of raiders and barbarians. They have a strange genetic predisposition towards birthing females. Every generation, they'd stage some kind of epic quest-like thing to find men to father children. The men who fail the quest die in the process (most likely due to dragon fire or something along those lines...). The (few) men who succeed, are promptly jailed (maybe crippled, if they cause enough of a ruckus...). And, that's the Amazon society...

Ulka was a general of that society, leading its military affairs. Under her command, the Amazon territory had seen its greatest growth, and had annexed a number of other territories. Brilliant, brutal and the whole nine yards... Except, in the time period which she lived, she was considered grotesquely unattractive (because she was thinner than most of the other Amazons (who were known for their bulk)... Bottom line, she was sensitive about her appearance/weight...). She lived a solitary life and the jailed men wouldn't touch her (one poor sod allegedly bit his tongue and died). The only company she had in life was a bird... That she had to eat in order to survive a particularly tough campaign...

Ulka died in the biggest battle of her career (a raid of a fortress). She was shot in the neck by an arrow, and through sheer adrenal will fought for several minutes before collapsing, gargling orders to her subordinates until she died. They captured the fortress, but lack of proper leadership led to infighting. The infighting severely weakened their military force, and within the year, the Amazons were no more.

Such was the end of the Amazons' last and greatest general.

Yup... Had a ton of fun on this one...
