Description Ā (New Design>> www.deviantart.com/dastardly-s… ) Banuthere are medium sized herbivores common in the Red Swamp. Males sport an impressive set of 3 horns used for combat between each other for mating rights, and more importantly, defense. To complement the set of defensive horns, both sexes sport an inflatable pouch, for the males this is below the horns, the females sport a larger pouch due to not having horns. This inflatable pouch serves to distract and confuse predators, as it resembles large eyes to the attacker. This however, does not work on their primary predator, Esotodus. Banuthere are the favorite prey of the giant piscine, so the inflatable pouch serves as nothing but a glowing dinner bell to them. In a rather grisly scene, male Banuthere are decapitated by the piscine, due to them not being able to swallow them as a result of their horns.

Banuthere or more commonly called "Trunk Pigs", are generally placid, and are known for being friendly towards people, this has made them perfect for taming, and every swamp village typically has a herd of these gentle beasts for hide and meat. In an interesting observation, Banuthere have been seen foraging close to the saurian wyvern Ghavial, with no fear of the giant. It's thought that due to the Ghavial's mainly fish based diet, Banuthere suffer little if any predation from it, and the usually territorial saurian puts up with the lumbering herbivores for an early warning system. So herds get a defender, while the Ghavial gets an alarm system; One lost fish due to a clumsy Banuthere is worth it in the long run if it can get warned of any intruders in its territory. This will usually be an Esotodus looking to eat its favored food.

Banuthere are based on the extinct Arsinoitherium and Malayan Tapir's.
