PREGAME
A credit to Araceli's rather unconventional parenting style, Shardae is socially stunted. Early interactions with her siblings involved more fighting than bonding; time spent between mother and child didn't fare much better. As a result she is more adept at interpreting signs of hostility than affection, often misunderstanding the latter as the former. In a singular defiant act towards her callous familial arrangement she managed to develop a relatively gentle demeanor. Perhaps as an instinctual counter to the social isolation she experienced. Unfortunately it was accompanied by a timidity that makes her easy to push around, a quality often viewed in a myriad of negative lights.

Despite the newfound security of a second chance in Skydas the pup still struggles with her previous abandonment. Her perception of self-worth is informed by pessimism and fed by an inherent lack of confidence due to her mother's belittling. She desperately wishes to appease her packmates so she might earn her place among them. Feelings of alienation breed the same paranoia that plagued Araceli, causing her to find comfort in the few she does trust. Shardae will cling to these individuals whenever possible and is hesitant to associate with complete strangers. That said, she tries to avoid being outright disrespectful or rude and will speak when spoken to.

Shardae's story starts with Kol. Her mother was a fanatical believer, having devoted every fiber of her being to the pursuit of godhood. Willing to do anything if it would please her Alva. Being granted permission to bear another generation of devotees with her mate was simply fulfilling what she saw as her duty. But not all of her offspring would be considered worthy of being Kol born; as was the case with the smallest of her pups.

From her first breath, she was her mother's greatest disappointment. Araceli encouraged obedience and ambition in her offspring. The runt cowered under her gaze; frozen in fear. Her mother played the pups against each other to ensure their loyalty lay first and foremost with the Alva. Yet Shardae would never raise her hackles to them. Even as they bullied her without mercy. So displeased was Araceli that the wolf had half a mind to cull the weakling by her own fangs, but some semblance of maternal instinct dictated otherwise. Instead she brought the pup outside of Kol territory and left her behind. If she was strong, she'd survive; but she would be a drain on the pack's resources no longer.

Shardae waited for her mother to return for her; hunkered down in the cradle of a nettle bush. She might've starved to death if not for Halvar. Drawn by the commotion of her cries following her mother's departure, he managed to find her before anything else could. Yet her upbringing had taught her to view every outsider as the enemy; even without her mother's influence she was defensive. Though he attempted to ask after her parents, it quickly became clear that she was not from Skydas. Any food he offered was promptly rejected, despite how her stomach gurgled in protest. Eventually it seemed that he was finally getting through to her. When Halvar attempted to pick her up for the first time however, Shardae lashed out. Latching onto his face with what little strength she had left she tore into him. The first flash of the bloodlust Araceli had attempted to instill in her child.

But when she realized he wasn't fighting back, the pup released. She was horrified, and in her shock set about cleaning his wounds as she had her own many times before. Since then she's become nearly inseparable from Halvar; for whatever reason he'd earned her trust and Shardae wasn't about to let him go.
