Shardae had been so excited. When her mother had awoken her before the sun and said they'd be going for a walk, just the two of them. Hunkered down in the nettle bush Shardae watched as the light filtered down from the trees. Her little chest rose and fell with each whimper. All she ever wanted was to make her mother happy. Her throat was raw, worn ragged by her cries. But Araceli was gone; having disowned the pup without a second thought, she'd turned the family outing her daughter had always dreamed of into a nightmare.
