What kind of camera should you have for this? I never dared go out in a storm to try, but want to.

I have been practicing shooting Lightning. Due to the camera I have, I am very limited but this shot is beautiful!

This is one of the few times I have seriously wanted to buy a print. Wish I had money, this would make an awesome postcard...

I really like it. The prple behind it is nice. Was the sky actually that color, or did you doctor it up jsut a little?

Thanks...the sky was that colour. The photo has had very little work done on it...some very minor colour correction and sharpening. No manipulation.

I've gotten one or two lightning strikes before, but I'm so slow, that I just get the return strike and not any of the forks. ^_^"
Seems like it used to lightning more... I haven't seen much lightning in the past few years.

How'd you get the lightning to come out so sharp?

Hi Jessica,
Always use a tripod and cable/shutter release. Good glass (quality lens) is also a benefit.

thanks. I guess I'll just have to try again when I get a remote release. Right now the best I can do is use the self timer

I love lightning photos. I could never capture one myself, though. How on earth did you manage to get it?

what did you do? wait until you saw one and try snapping a photo? That must be nerve wrecking

Yeah I set may camera and tripod up and pointed in the general direction of the lightning...I held the shutter open for varying time periods depending how bright the strike was. After searching through a lot of images that were not quite right I was lucky enough to get this one
I'm sure there are easier ways but I've yet to find them

Held the shutter open. What kind of camera do you use?

One of the prettier lighting strikes I've seen to date, did you alter the color at all or did it really come out that purple?

Thanks...No alteration to the colour, just some minor adjustments from RAW conversion.

very awesome shot so clear
. but
how does that work?
you sit all night with the camera in your hand and wait?
and while the shutter is opened for 27 seconds?
tell me
what did you do that night
?

Thanks...I've tried many times to capture lightning however it is quite difficult I find.
Summer in Sydney usually produces quite a number of electrical storms too, mainly in the late afternoon.
