Description
a new model, stacy. this piece is obviously selectively desaturated. this is at the finch arboretum, the most stereotypical location for senior pictures in spokane, wa. at any given time, you SHOULD be able to see at LEAST a couple portrait photographers shooting here. sick.. anyway, the harmony of the pinks here between the leaves and my model's sweatshirt were too amazing to pass up, so i decided to bring them out to their extremes. hope you like my creation.*daveainley

I'm afraid to think how much time you spent on this getting the pinks out. I can only hope that you found a quicker way than just desaturating around each individual leaf. Wow.. I hope you did.
Awesome shot too! Great idea to bring out the pinks.

i tinkered around a lot with some different methods and finally decided to just drop hues and saturation on yellows, greens, cyans, and blues.. leaving only reds and magentas alone. however, this will obviously only work when desaturating all but a specific color. sooooo much easier than selecting EVERY freaking leaf. that would be hell.

Ahh... that's a new technique, thanks! I've been doing Select Color Range when I want to remove or keep a certain color.

see, i couldn't figure out how to use that. the great thing about photoshop is that you're CONSTANTLY learning, or in this case, not. i've worked with the program since 4.0 and STILL i learn new stuff ALL THE TIME! i think your method is probably the more fluid way to go, and if i could figure it out, i'd use it too. i AM using 5.5, though, if that makes any difference.

I admire you for resisting the urge to upgrade constantly. I started with PS back at PS 3.0, and have had every version since. I thought I'd found the perfect version when CS came out. Then the smarmy little bastards at Adobe came out with CS2. I found a deal I couldn't say no to, so I upgraded. Does it make a difference: no. There are a few little things that are neat, but I really only touch 10% of PS functionality anyway. PS rocks. I love it. If I knew half of what the PS experts knew... well, I'd probably be single.

hahahaha!! well played!! i like that, man. well, i didn't even KNOW there was a CS2. 5.5 has worked fine for me for 5 years. its soooo advanced that even after all this time i'm STILL set with it. the only thing i think i would really like would be that band aid tool. that thing's amazing. wow.

The original Band Aid tool (healing brush) was absolutely amazing. Now they've added "spot healing" which lets you heal anywhere w/o having to select from where the healing info comes from. The tool looks at neighboring pixels, clones them in, and blends with the surroundings. When it works, it's freaky.
