The palette is spot on, so much that it even undermines the intention of the piece: emotive portrait, yet that is it's strength. Thus, quite brilliant, I'd say.

You have such a knack of finding the coolest places with the best natural light.
I really like the surroundings and atmosphere here.

another awesome photo from the great dave
i absolutely adore the location, but i wish he was wearing something that didnt blend in with the background... wait... *thinks* hmmmm aaaaaactually, the fact that his clothes blend in with the background makes his face and arms stick out more, so i guess there are some good and bad points to that little fact.
normally, i dont really like it much when faces and stuff are overexposed, but in this photo it adds a certain raw, urban feel (yeah, i know its urban portraiture and is supposed to feel urban, but what i mean is the whole... ummm... whats the word... tough almost? feel of urban settings)
wonderful job, hun

I love these urban shots dude. Do you touch them up much? Any tips for someone wanting to head in that direction?

daveainley In reply to ardent-insomniac [2005-12-18 23:48:58 +0000 UTC]
touch ups? no. its almost all as it was originally. i mean, i color balance, but thats about it, aside from bordering them, obviously. advice? well... i guess just find cool locations by exploring a lot, shoot the crap out of them, hit every angle imagineable, and keep your models comfortable. if you don't make it easy for them, the locations won't matter. talk to them and keep them happy. laugh and joke around or whatever and be ready to take that award winning shot at all times.
