OMG! I hate them too!
There was one flying around in my classroom once when I was about freshman in high school (back then, about 5'5" and under 140 lbs). A bully 6'1" and over 250 lbs got in my way to the door, and according to the other kids (I don't know) I apparently picked him up and tossed him out of my way to get out of the room away from the wasp.
I inherited the fear from my mother, who moved in front of a moving truck into traffic to get away from one.
