Description
"Yes, FROM THE MOVIE"!!! latex suit pieces sculpted for the "Rinzler" character.Worked with friend Steve Kotch on this suit sculpt.
Doing hard surface-very symmetrical sculpting on a not so symmetrical body form was quite a challenge.

It's made up of different materials, but the main sculpted sections were cast in foam latex.

I guess what I'm asking is where it comes together on the back; I've seen pictures and I have no idea where the zippers/ stitches meet on the actor's back...

I'm very sorry...... but I've been bombarded by many people asking me questions about this guy that I just can't answer any more questions about him.

How did you put it on? There aren't any zippers or stitches; the whole costume looks like he was born with it!

The upper body overlaps the pants and it does have zippers going down the sides under the arms.

Where did it overlap on the foam latex? Where does it overlap? because It looks flawless.

very very cool. I loved how smooth and slick it looked. Not how you usually think of foam latex... and I would've guessed it was silicone or something else... so you did a great job

I have GREAT respect for these sorts of sculptural applications, knowing how tricky it can be (and you were fighting an assymetrical foundation, no less...yikes.).
Looks like you guys did a beautiful job.
Great design and rendering. Slick stuff.
Killer work as always, Dave. Always nice to
see new submissions form you.

Im absolutely blown away at looking at this up close. I would love to learn how to do this, any tips for some beginners? Also, was the body suit one full peice, the hexagonal pattern understuit, or was it two as well? (reading from other pictures that were taken) LOL I'm Still in awe about it, lol did you work on any other suits or just rinzler?

Thank you, and I only worked on Rinzler.
I'm sorry, but I've had way too many people ask me how this was made and it's just too complicated to get into.

no worries mr.g, I understand. I'm still in awe of your talents and how well it was made. watching the movie again shows how well it was made because of all the flashy moves they have Rinzler/Tron do. Cheers all around and if I could I'd buy ya a round

Superb craftsmanship. Really enjoyed the suits from the new Tron, must have been a bitch to put on though.

I have a question if it is not too much to ask.
How did you achieve the mesh texture? Did you have a textured under-material that you sculpted the plates overtop or was each cell stamped out individually to match the contours? I can't imagine fitting a geometric pattern over a soft round body to be very easy.

The fabric was a kind of silk-screen, but I don't know anything more about that end of it.

Yes, and I had nothing to do with that end of it. That would be a question for the fabrication dept.

the light part must have been some hell to make are they ?

DaveGrasso In reply to Zedig [2011-06-05 00:37:40 +0000 UTC]
On this character, they were very minimal as you can see. All the other costumes were difficult considering the light strips were much bigger and longer.
