Thank you Lucila.

I was not fishing for comments on all these images.  I was just concerned about the Oxbow vignette.  It was already a dark image and it darkened further when re-sized to 900 x 900.  I am thinking about bumping it up to a 1600 x 1600 square to help lighten it up again.

I saw it in full and I don't think is dark  , is so hard to capture birds flying
you can try and change it and see if you like it, but this size is great too

Amazing. I love the amount of detail you captured and how the wings have a slight blur. What kind of lens are you using?

Daveinwilton In reply to margaretrocks [2014-03-10 13:07:55 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.  I used the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO lens for this image.  At just a little over four pounds, it is easy enough to hand hold for a short duration.

Nice work! Great freeze in action!

I just got a new 300mm lens and I'm wondering for the birds!

A 300mm will work for some birds, particularly ones that you lure in, like hummingbirds and Jays.   You will have to set up a feeder for them, and set up a chair for yourself.  Slowly move the chair in closer to the feeder over several weeks.  They will "tame up" over time.  Remember fast shutter speeds too!

Thanks for the tips!

Actually, I am about to move to the countryside, a city more than 1500km (1000 miles) from here. I will try it there.

First, I was planning to buy a feeder and set it up with infrared sensor coupled to the shutter remote. That way I can use a 50mm f/1.8 to be closer
