wonderfully job
the only critique i can possibley offer is the name.
a work of this trek-majesty deserves something a bit more than 'asteroids'

Thank you for tke hind words. It's 3D Studio Max 9. I made the nebula (sky) using the Glitterato PS plugin...

Reminds me of Star Trek: Phase II (New Voyages) Episode 2 "To Serve All My Days", the first few mins.

Great Series, btw.

Gotta love TOS and the non-warp-core-having spaceships!!

Awesome job here, as usual!!

Thank you!

But hey, why did the Enterprise was converted to a warp core design at TMP? It's the same principle as in TNG and Roddenberry was still involved...

Promus-Kaa In reply to davemetlesits [2008-09-05 00:19:28 +0000 UTC]

You might as well ask why it was refitted in the first place! Mostly it's just because it's a simpler, localized system I guess. I really don't know the full advantages of having the centralized warp core and warp nacelles instead of the "reactors and rockets" method - all I know is that they upgraded.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

davemetlesits In reply to Promus-Kaa [2008-09-05 12:35:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, we know that the nacelles, pylons, even the bridge domes are interchangable anyway. Maybe the more angular nacelles had batter warp field geometry, no wonder they are being used since TMP. Only ENT and TOS era ships had round nacelles.

I think I'll write a letter to Bernd Schneider of Ex-Astris-Scientia, for me, he's the legitimate source of everything Trek...

Promus-Kaa In reply to davemetlesits [2008-09-08 20:48:30 +0000 UTC]

Well, remember that the round nacelles didn't have any "warp field geometry" in the first place, since they don't use the warp field principle. The ENT ones did, but that's just because they didn't really adhere to canon or TOS tech like I've said before.

Bernd Schneider is pretty good, and I'd easily consider him to be the expert of all things TNG-related. He's just not too qualified in the TOS-department.

Don't get me wrong but I found this non-Warp-field idea of yours a bit fishy. It kinda sticks out of all Trek. Maybe the new movie will gove us more information...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Promus-Kaa In reply to davemetlesits [2008-09-08 22:24:50 +0000 UTC]

It only sticks out because it was only in ONE show (TOS), and everything else afterwards (all the movies and TV shows) used the post-TMP "warp field" thing. So yeah, it sticks out. Doesn't mean it wasn't part of TOS - because it is.

The new movie isn't going to address it because only people who really know TOS know about the non-warp-field thing. I'm sure Abrams has never heard of it...TNG and everything else effectively "set the standard" of what Star Trek tech would be and plastered those ideas across all the shows, including TOS. They made the "warp field" thing universal, which doesn't make sense because if humanity has been using the "warp field" technology for centuries from the day it was invented, then their warp technology has stagnated and hasn't grown. At least the original TOS idea of non-warp-fields shows some development between Kirk's era and Picard's, AND it explains how Kirk could go "Warp 16" in TOS, when Picard can't go faster than Warp 10 (different warp scales due to different warp speed methods).

You really can't try to shoehorn ENT into the mix, because it's so non-canon it's like trying to force a nail through the eye of a needle. It just messes everything up - it's irreconcillable with the rest of Trek tech.
