I visited the IMAX theater in the Metreon entertainment mall of San Francisco, California (Starfleet's home city in the future, of course) on the evening of Thursday, May 7th, 2010 - the night before the official premiere day - to see the movie with my professor at U.C. Berkeley and several of his graduate students, a number of whom were also Star Trek fans. (Just a few hours earlier, I'd received my copy of Michael Giacchino's soundtrack for the film - talk about good timing.)
It was incredible seeing the movie I'd been waiting two years for, with breath held, on that huge screen with the amazing sound system, in full Enterprise Captain's costume with Tricorder, Phaser and Communicator and with hundreds of other fans who felt just like I did. And when this scene played, and we saw the completed Enterprise for the first time, the audience burst into a thundering roar of applause.
I'll never forget that. I went through a lot of pain and torture as a child because people never stopped making fun of me for being a "Star Trek" fan (I've been a Trekkie since I was 4 years old and TNG was on the air). Well, for once, I could feel proud of what I was.
Let's punch it, Mr. Sulu. The universe lies before us.

I first saw it in a crappy cam version I downloaded via BitTorrent. But then, I went with my dearest friend to the cinema to watch it (she introduced me to Trek). When Spock said "I have been, and always shall be, your friend", we looked at eachother, tears in our eyes. It was a credo for us as well.

Yeah. I know the movie wasn't perfect, and I know a lot changed (but hey, at least it's an alternate reality so TOS wasn't touched), but still - it was a great movie and it was something I'd waited a long time for. I graduated from college shortly after the movie came out, so it was like a graduation present for me.
But most importantly, I'm glad that I can see a whole new fandom erupting here on DA alone. New, young, enthusiastic fans who, through things like the Star Trek Reboot Art Meme, are not only getting really into the movie and falling in love with Kirk, Spock, Bones and the others all over again, but being encouraged to learn about TOS, too.
We all know how much TOS has been ridiculed as "Campy" or "Dated" without people even giving it a chance. It was the mission of this movie to drum up some interest and fix that and I really believe that it did.

a short critique:
grainy/fuzzy factor...
there are some models that does not look good on.
this is one where a crisp, clear view is a must.
besides, the grainy thing just looks off on lcd screens.

Sorry, I'm one of the kooks who still prefer CRT to LCD, so...

Looks awesome. Only one question... The starfleet symbol on the secondary hull. Shouldn't it be more like the white and red ones like the "A"
