Description
I had a bad day, so I built this model to relieve my frustration. It's a monster, I'm telling you, my first mesh to cross the magic 1 million polygons number.
Mesh by me

I'm glad you like it. 50's vibe? I have never really thought of it like that, but yeah

Oh, those lovely old Chesley Bonestell-era images. Forward-looking concepts that conservative political agendas killed dead.
I think that America will only return to the moon after China lands a crew up there... but that's another story.

The question is, whether the Americans really did go to the moon...

That's another can of worms altogether. Given the "built out of junk" look of the Space Shuttle -- when it was brand new -- it doesn't seem likely, does it?

The Shuttle was a bad design, that's not her fault. The question is, with all the technology and computer capacity we possess today, the Americans say it'll be twenty years till they can do another moon landing. How could they do it with the tech of a modern pocket calculator back then?

I think because -- in part -- it hadn't been done before. There was a sense of "Why not?" back then. Now, it's "Why bother?"
And yeah, the Shuttle was messed about by the US Navy's contradictory rethinks & endless redesigns. Then they pulled out of the whole project at the last minute and left NASA with a spaceplane that had a serious design problem. As Columbia proved.

I haven't. That was a problem with one of the booster rockets after it suffered weather damage at pre-launch. Different causes, but the same end results -- a hell of a mess and the loss of lives...

I hate this station (not your model of it) I had to scratchbuild a minature of this last year for a number of SDB (System Defense Boats) skirmishes based around the orbit of this thing. We play SFB alot still and yes we still use miniatures on floaty hex bases. Nice model altho its lacking a hell of a lot of detail considering the polycount you've used.

This was the most detail I could get from the images I used as reference.

nice mesh!
could you dial down the 'fuzziness' factor a bit on the finished render?
I'm giving this a 4 out of 5, the fuzziness is the only thing that takes away from the pic.

What do you mean by fuzzyness?

the image looks somewhat grainy.
dunno if it's the fact I'm seeing it on an lcd screen, I figured you should know.

Oh, that!
The background photo was grainy so I had to grain up the station to match the effect.

could you do a shot that's not grainy?

Amazing work.
Though why a Starfleet space station with their warp cores and fusion power plants needs solar panels I'm not sure.

They aren't really solar panels, IMHO, but some sensor platforms...

Very nice. Sorry to hear you had a bad day. I know what it's like. My week sucked in so many ways. But if you can do THIS on a bad day, what can you do on a good one?!

I hope your day has become better.
As you know I think your art/work is great. However, something does not look right to me on the UFP logo.
Is it supposed to be recessed?

Oh, so that's what Jupiter station looks like. Mentioned on-screen, but never shown, if I remember correctly. the saucers DO look like they're left over from Ambassador class starships.
