Well, luckily this is the alternate reality and not the prime reality. Vulcan is really safe and sound. Can't say the same for Romulus though...

I don't like what that goddam writters made to vulcan, it was unfair, they rather should destroy Earth, that would be truly alternate... or Tellar Prime, who cares about those pigs??

I think they did away with Vulcan to show that in this new Trek, everything is possible. Earth got destroyed in many other sci-fis, but killing off a fan-favourite planet, that's something new and truly creates the "Wow!" effect.

maybe, but it was cruel, it could be far better to blow out any other planet.... not andoria nor vulcan of couse

But the WTF element would be gone then. I mean, blow up Trill or Bajor or Tellar... who the f**k cares? Vulcan was the first planet besides Earth to show up in Trek, via Spock's character. In Trek, Earth and Vulcan are the planets that actually mean something, all other worlds are just playgrounds where Starfleet dudes shoot the evil alien of the week.

I know it's just rong, but I think it would have been better to do away with Earth. That would have been epic beyond epic!

Nice pic, but the atmosphere is too dense for my opinion and it could also do with a smooth, fading glow towards the planet centre to show the atmosphere better. Difficult to explain. Maybe it looked like that in the movie, if so, fair enough. Haven't seen it yet.

I see your points. The problem is that the planet is entirely 2D, made it with Photoshop using a photo of Mars.

Naa, that's fine, that's what I usually do. A bit more "Inner Glow" in the Blending and a bit more Anti-Aliasing in the "Outer Glow" and it'd be perfect.

Where you have the spider web of fracture lines I'd have either used a gradient on those or set blend to multiply, the stark white doesn't fit somehow with the surface action taking place below. Just my suggestions nothing more. Be a great picture this if all the elements looked as real as the ship.

Those are not fracture lines. I meant them to be giant lightning bolt things, shooting up from the core to the atmosphere
