I think KARR should have a Decepticon symbol.

I can barely remember anything from the original series, apart from KITT, Michael, the Turbo Boost and the truck.

The new series rocks. I want season 2!

Ah KARR.

He wuz so Bad Ass!

Okay, now excuse me while I go all fan-boy, fan-fiction on you here.

As you doubtless recall, at the end of the episode with the turbo boosting duel, there was a short epilogue, showing a erratic but still functional "cyclops scanner" amidst KARR's wreckage.

Cute, but as far as I know, this was never followed up upon. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

My Idea:

Inside and undisclosed aircraft hangar, faint reflections slide with ease along the "baby's ass" finish of a jet black, third generation Pontiac Trans Am.

Inside it's cockpit, one by one, its impressive host of display lights come to life. The glow of its lighted buttons and multifunction monitors fill the empty hangar with an almost festive glow. A glow which pales when compared to the radiance of the bright yellow sensor eye coming on line in the vehicle's menacing prow.

With the low growl of a waking predator, the machine speaks.

KARR: "I...live?"

A voice, significantly less mechanical, though none the less intimidating answers back:

"Of course you live. You will not die until you have served me.

KARR: "And who are you to dictate the terms of my existence?"

Garth Knight steps into the sensor's yellow light. The demonic uplighting of his face is rendered all the more devilish by the sensor sweep shifting his goateed features in and out of the shadows.

Garth: "Who else, but your merciful creator?"

Okay my idea is that Michael has a malevolent twin,(Complete with goatee, I should add.) and KITT has a malevolent twin. Why haven't the two ever joined forces?

It also struck me that Garth could be KARR's original programmer. In fact, his taking of his fathers "ultimate safe dream-car" and perverting it into the potentially homicidal KARR could well have been the last straw the caused Michael Knight Sr. to disown Garth and manufacture a kind-hearted twin for him, just as he manufactured a kind-hearted twin for KARR.

Or course, in Garth's case, its to prevent the psychotic son from inheriting the power of FLAG upon the deathly ill (Probably poisoned) senior Knight's imminent demise.

Just some thoughts.

Okay, this is the time when the rabid Knight Rider fan comes to life in me (and I know the thing on a dialogue level, so be prepared

- Garth was in prison in Africa before Wilton Knight (not Michael Knight Sr.) started building Karr. Wilton considered him dead (although he knew well that he is alive).

- Karr was Wilton Knight's "crowning invention", as according to Devon. Karr lacked one simple thing Kitt did not: the directive to protect human life. Otherwise, he was not "evil" in a way like, for example, Garthe was.

- Wilton Knight's death is a thing of debate. The original draft of the pilot's script says that he has died of cancer (a journalist says that, as well as his age of 84), as does the novelisation, but the cause of his death is never told in the series' run.

- Garthe and Karr actually joined forces in the Davilex Knight Rider games.

I knew that Garth was imprisoned in Africa, As I recall, he once locked Michael in a replica of his rat infested cell.

I did not know that Garth's imprisonment predated the construction of KARR. Sadly, that does throw a considerable wrench in my idea.

I know that the Roving Robot was programmed for self preservation as opposed to human protection, but I was thinking that its ability to invent ways to manipulate people ("Do as I say or I'll decompress with your girlfriend in the passenger seat") went beyond such simple directives and delved into pure evil.

But once again, this is all rendered moot by Garth's unavailability at the time of KARR's conception. Although I still think some back story explaining how an altruistic man like Wilton raised a bastard like Garth would be interesting to see.

In a way, Garth is the very embodiment of the senior Knight's dictum that "One man can make a difference," only not in quite the way he'd imagined it.

Regarding the game, it's nice that someone else had that painfully obvious idea. Would've been nicer to see that idea on the screen.

Actually now that I think of it, I could see a.) A script writer not possessed with your thoroughness simply saying Garth greated KARR anyway. Or, b.) Garth filling in the blanks on KARR's program, so that it does look upon him as the creator, and hence more easily accepts Garth's deliberately murderous new agenda.

Actually, Garth would have wanted to destroy Karr as much as Kitt: he hated everything his father has created.

Aw man, that's renders it even mooter. (Is that a word?)

For years, I had this vision in my head of Hasselhoff with his cheesy glued on goatee, chewing up the scenery with a pithy monologue as he maniacally turned the wheel of a malevolent KARR.

KARR would speak admiringly of the purity of Garth's evil, and eventually the pair would share an evil laugh as the rolled down the road.

Naturally, both man and machine would plot the destruction of the other once they had outlived their usefulness.

And to me, the sheer fun of the pairing is easily worth a little manipulation with the continuity. After all, didn't they later spontaneously materialize a sister for Garth later during the show's run? (Who looked nice with a tape gag as I recall.)

The true power was actually in Garth's pimp cane

we-r-nomad In reply to davemetlesits [2009-08-15 23:20:14 +0000 UTC]

Garth Knight was a white boy so cool, he could pull off carrying a pimp cane! I'd bet he could out think a Mr. T./Chuck Norris team-up--laughing evilly all the way.

But really I have to admit Garth may have been my favorite villain from the 80's vehicle shows. First, there's just the hilarious absurdity of watching Hasslehoff twirl his fake mustache and try to act like a mastermind. Any jpeg of his "this is my serious face" mug doubles me over with laughter.

But beyond that, in Garth Knight, Michael had something that Stringfellow Hawke, Jesse Mach, or Frank Chaney never had. A worthy nemesis.

Probably why KR outlasted is imitators.

dude this is really cool!! have you watched the new KR episode with KARR ? i thought the logic of a military version of KARR turning into a 'stang was flawed but good of the writers to keep the doppleganger theme.

Thank you!

I watched the new Karr episode and... I wan't impressed. They made too easy a job with Karr, he deserved more. Plus nobody ever bothered to explain whether this was the original Karr's AI module or Graiman was stupid enough to build a second Karr with the same flaw like the original...

If I remember correctly, KARR was robbing an armored car with some guys, and shot the pillars to keep the car in the middle, and then KITT showed up to save the day. Oh and they dueled "in the air" by Turbo Boosting

These kinda epic fights just get etched to your brain

davemetlesits In reply to Tapolako [2008-12-20 14:31:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, Karr wasn't really robing the armored car, it was just a trick to get the attention of Kitt and he Turbo Boostet through two pillars and only fired a small burst of laser to a thirt but... okay, sorry, Knight Rider geek moment D:

Great work Dave

I don't remember K.A.R.R having a laser? I remember K.I.T.T having one, which was supposed to be used on K.A.R.R's scanner to take his A.I offline.

Before the laser was installed on Kitt, Karr stole it. He used John, the guy who dug him up on the beach, to Turbo Boost into the speeding Semi and fetch the laser (Press Turbo Boost. - pause - Press it!!!)

Karr, or the Knight Automated Roving Robot is the prototype of Kitt, lacking the programming to protect human life. In S1, he was discovered and reactivated by two homeless dudes who made him commit crimes. Karr was thought to be destroyed, untill he was found fully functional two years later. In this scene, Karr is firing his laser (I'mma chargin' ma' lazorz!) upon a bridge with cars on it to taunt Kitt and Michael.
