I don't really know, but I think El-Baz was a Medieval Arabic traveller. I know of an Ibn Batouta, I have learnt about him in my Post-European Medieval World class.

I have done some Wikipediaing and it says that there is a Farouk El-Baz, who is not a medieval traveller but a modern geologist who helped NASA during the Moo exploration missions. The things one learn when watching Trek...
Also, El-Baz sounds really like "elbasz", the Hungarian phrase meaning "to fuck up"
