Description I spent the last half day re-modelling most of the Polaris. Now it's 4 in the morning and she's finished!

Anyway, I wanted to update the model because I saw hor horrible the top side of the saucer was on the "Polaris over Pandora" pic. I used Prologic9's Enterprise as a reference (basically as a spline template). I also rebuilt the nacelles.

So, the new elements are the following:

- the saucer
- the "deck 2" module
- the bridge (finally, the TOS Pilot style bridge module with its normal circumference)
- the nacelles
- the impulse engine assembly
- upgraded textures, based on the old ones

What remained from the original mesh:

- the neck (slightly modified)
- the engineering hull and hangar door
- the nacelle pylons
- the nacelle spikes
- the lower sensor platform of the saucer
- the deflector assembly
- the black thingies for the top post and starboard lights on the saucer
- the formation lights

So here she is, a Polaris which is more accurate to the TOS design. She's still the same ship, though, so watch out for incoming Sunbombs, neutered Kzinti and Section 31

In the TOS era, was Polaris meant to be a cruiser, or some other designation? Was she an explorer like the Constitution-class of starships, or a patrol/service vessel?

great job. I think it's interesting how you oriented the nacelles.

Thank you!

Even on the first model, the grilles were pointing upward, simply because the pylons needed their place.

ah cool. Still an awesome design, just noting how it's different from most ships of that era

The more and more I see this ship the more I grow fonder of it. I don't know if you have them on an older posting of the ship, but do you have specs on the design?

I made a Franz Joseph style deck cutaway diagram.

And by nacelle spikes I suppose you mean the tailfins or those antenna things sticking out of the ramscoop?

davemetlesits In reply to dantrekfan48 [2010-03-14 15:08:47 +0000 UTC]

The antennae on the bussards. They're subspace stabilisation scoops or something like that.

I always thought that was the tailfins' job.

It's just because it shows most of the ship if lit properly. Also, in this case, shows about all the new parts I built for the ship.

A very nice mesh you have there Dave. I particularly like the way you have the intercoolers on the dorsal of the nacelle rather than the more common side or ventral. I'd say its a hundred percent improvement on the earlier model

Thank you very much!

The original mesh also had this vent arrangement, but now it has more detail.

shows how much notice I take these days d'oh.
restarted Ricky's lighting jobs, should have them all ready for upload by wednesday should you speak to him min the meantime, had a green light to try and get some less stress oriented work so the backlog of projects I can hit at last.

Not forgot the soyuz, having to build one from pics in one of dannys encyclopaedias tho.

I'll contact Ricky but first I need some sleep. I feel like I'm drunk although I was never drunk...

And... you're building the Soyuz? Thanks, man!
