Updated image for a show I'm doing in a few months based on my views about religion.Enjoy.
Edit: Someone asked what my take was on this image. I usually don't express my views on my stuff but when asked I will...
Of course the glass through the hand (and title) is the symbolism of Christ on the cross (nails through hands), the glass represents the body of Christ while the green represents the poison and evils that the Catholic Church spews all the time and the blood is represents not only the pierced hand but the millions who have died in the name of religion and the hundreds of millions that suffer while the church gets richer and richer while they stay poor. Jesus led a life without material things and the Catholic Church is the biggest business in the world with more art, property and wealth than most, if not all, third world nations.
That was my thought going into it anyhow. I should say that I think religion is a beautiful thing and if practiced the way God wanted people too (not just Catholicism but all faiths) is an amazingly powerful thing. It's just organized religion has turned into a farce and a way to compact power and wealth into the hands of the few.

Got this from wikipedia...
Stigmata are bodily marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus.
So the hole through the hand is stigmata. People have claimed throughout time to all of a sudden have sores in their hands and feet where Jesus had nails driven through him. Also cuts around the head or a wound in the ribs where he was stabbed.

i love not only this image, but the message.
i'm a christian myself, and i can get truly disgusted with the way most churches operate now. it has jsut become another advertisement, and jesus is the product. Thats not how it's supposed to be.

I not only like this picture, but also your argument on your views of the Catholic Church. What you say is true - while the Pope preaches that we should think of those who are poor in Third World countries, he lives in a place that contains some of the greatest riches upon this planet. If he sold even a small portion of these riches, then the money earned from those sales would defiantly be able to make a positive impact upon the communities that need it most in the world. You've made a great point with both your words and your picture.

This is striking and the concept behind it is well executed. I too feel some churches do just what Jesus told them not to (hypocrasy, Pharisee-ism, etc) yet they call themselves CHRIST-ians. Followers of Christ. I try to be forgiving of them though, as Jesus also told us not to judge. For awhile I didn't go to church, but then realized I was missing out on a lot of good things because I "didn't like organized religion." There are certainly many churches who are bad, but also many who are good. And hey, at least Jesus said "Follow ME" and not "Follow my people."

Faith as a whole is necessary to society....it is hope for the hopeless, something the cling to in the darkness, and a very effective social control. But you're exactly right. Organized religion has become a pathetic, twisted caricature of what it was meant to be.

I really do get where youre coming from on the whole Castholic thing and I love the picture...
But you must realize tht not all religion are like that. Maybe you said that and I missed it?

I did a reasearch ppr on stigmata once..I really loved this from the second I saw it but your description made me appreciate it even more. I never would have drawn the same conclusion...espescially the poison. Silly me, I just thought the green was green!! Lol!!

In the description, you've said everything I wanted to say about this picture. It's a really interesting take on organised religion. In my life, I've known maybe 5 genuine Christians who truly lived by Christian values and were selfless wonderful people. Those who claimed to be Christians but who lived in jealousy, bitterness and prejudice vastly outnumber them.

I totally agree with your ideas here - organised religion has destroyed what religion is meant to be.
I work next to a place called The Jesus Army Centre. Does that scare anyone else? Just makes me think Religious War.
I always thought a truly Christian philosophy would be 'live and let live', but then I see stuff like that.
They only have druggies hanging around outside who pop our promotional balloons anyway!

Reminds me of the movie Stigmata, if you haven't seen it I suggest you give it a watch. Probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. I think watching that movie was the beginning of my process into going from a catholic school girl (literally) to being an atheist. Anyways...Great piece although I'm not too keen on how bright the green liquid is. Without the explanation I really wouldn't have understood the piece (I actually thought it was CG work at first) so props on not just leaving the artist's comments blank. =]

Brilliant image and concept 
An ancient civilization responsible for murdering Christ, then centuries later murdering people for not believing in Him. All because this one emperor (Constantine) had this prophetic vision most likely induced by drugs or flat out dementia.
A religious I would argue as archaic since it was borne of ruthless dictatorship as opposed to the supposedly "enlightened" democracy we now "enjoy".
