Description
Inspired by the contest "Just a touch of blue" [link] in the groupA development of my semi-abstract impasto flowers series.
The painting is Cryla acrylics painted with a painting knife. The background is "chromatic black" which I made by mixing dark green (phthalo turquoise) with napthol crimson on the canvas. However, I then scratched back to the crimson layer underneath. Highlights and sky are an over-painting with Titanium white. And then the third "tulip" is "cobalt chromate blue red shade" mixed with a little titanium white.
It is very small, 7x5 in, on canvas board. There wasn't enough sunlight, so it is photographed under artificial light that simulates sunlight, but highly directional from one side, to bring out the texture.
It's very experimental, so please do let me know what you think!

Thanks! It was somewhat experimental and was supposed to be false colours. I love heavy texture in acrylic!

What exactly is it with your paintings? They are awesome everytime.
I like the blue tulip, and how it stands out. Again, the tulips look like they're coming right out of the painting. It's a great effect.
Please continue making paintings. And btw, it's a very nice experiment!

Thank you!
I like making parts of a picture stand out, and in this case the tulips do literally stand out, about 1mm off the canvas.
I am very much enjoying acrylic knife painting, and am trying to slightly vary the theme, as the temptation is to keep on doing the same thing. I think they way they are photographed also makes a big difference.

You're welcome.
Variation is good of course, but yeah, it looks really good! So keep it up, somewhat!

Very interesting to know the process behind this. I like the lighting, too - this looks so 3D and visually interesting

Just in case the didn't give this away - I really love this!
The texture really makes the piece pop, and I love that you've taken the time to explain the process you followed to create it. It makes for such a messy, and yet still classy, piece. If I could save up some cash for acrylics, I would love to try this. You've inspired me.
