TCC = Tetsuko Cosplay CalendarTrying something a little different this time - only posting one size, and letting everyone resize the downloaded pic to their desired size. (It saves me a lot of time!
)I tried to make her skin look shiny with sweat, and make her leotard look sweat-soaked as well. The background is mostly improvised, using various Frazetta paintings as inspiration and reference. The giant 2560 by 1920 size (actual art size) lets you see every flaw...

"I suspected that somewhere down the line you'd have Tetsuko doing a cosplay dealing with Lara Croft. I must say, the resulting artwork is wonderful. Her imposing physical build makes Tetsuko's portrayal of the action-oriented Ms. Croft all the more believable. My only regret with this pic is that there's only a few months left in this year (already), and therefore only a few months of this wonderful calendar to go.

Believe it or not I don't even like Lara Croft...I love brunettess who are buxom and wear glasses and all but somehow the original Lara was not sexy at all back when she first came out...must have imprinted in my head...but Tet-chan's alright.

Now if only we could get them to make a Tomb Raider game starring Tetsuko as Laura Croft...! I'd never go outdoors again, and for me that's saying a lot!!

I like the expression on her face... she looks like she's trying to affect a posh British accent.
I'm wondering how you convinced Tetsuko to pose with the guns, since I suspect she'd be pretty averse to them due to recent experience... and the fact that she could take that dino on mano-a-mano.
Having the calendar superimposed over the (nicely drawn) T-rex is a bit of a distraction... maybe white numbers and grid would be easier to make out?

Dave, thanks for all of the wonderful work you post. I feel really bad making this comment. But you have a field-ground issue with the calendar versus the T-rex. It's a bit hard to read.
I wonder whether widening the image and moving the calendar there would remedy the issue? Only if you have the time, of course.

Hey, don't feel bad. I need to be kept on my toes.
Incorporating the calendar grid has been a problem on several of the TCC pics. Almost makes me wish I hadn't gone with the "calendar" idea. (Almost...)
But keep in mind, when September is over, I'll repost the image without the calendar grid and numbers.

I struggle with this too as a Technical Writer and Editor.
I had a thought (always dangerous). It seems that your motif is to embed the calendar into the drawing. Should you choose to continue next year, perhaps the way to solve the issue is to follow old pin-up calendar approach? Place the calendar beneath the image?
Take care, Dave. Congrats on the award. Your work is a very interesting cross between classic graphic and contemporary anime/hentai style. I almost wonder what Tetsuko would look like drawn by Picasso, Brache, or maybe Chagall? I'm a sucker for modernism.

The trouble with putting the calendar below the illustration is that the proportions no longer lend themselves to use as desktop/wallpaper designs. (I'm almost tempted to ditch the "calendar" part, and just do straightforward illustrations.)
Tetsuko as rendered by modernist artists? *whew* Emulating another artist's style is always tricky.

My suggestion is to mark out the calendar on one layer, then have a semi-transparent "square" of another color on a layer between the calendar and the finished art, so the area where the calendar is has the art slightly "faded", and easier to read...
