Yeah, the colours are easy on the eye This sort of scene is one of the few exceptions to the 'dusk/dawn' landscapers rule (and up there with hay bales on the 'cliche or timeless classic' list )

BTW all of my Lee stuff has (finally) arrived - just waiting for a decent sunset to take 'em for a test drive (did you know the grads are selling for above new retail price on ebay - saw a set of 3 soft ND grads go for £217 the other day)

Everyone should have a rapeseed shot in their gallery! [link]

Good to hear you've got all your lee stuff, i've been watching big stoppers on ebay, there selling for £160! rrp is only £90 but you have to wait a while, i've got one on order, delivery time 3-4 weeks supposedly!

Here's a little tip for you that I learned tonight, I was out shooting sunset up on some rocks on the moor, i'd set my camera up, took the lee wallet out my bag, openend it up, took out a filter, bent over my camera to slot the filter in and 3 filters slide straight out the wallet, luckily, onto a small patch of grass! So the lesson is, never tip the lee filter wallet otherwise its going to be a expensive mistake!!

yep youve also got to have 'poppy fields' for a full house

I used to treat my Cokin filters like shit and learnt a few lessons from that - i now have a padded cotton matt about 2' square that i lay out next to me when shooting to keep filters n other bits (hopefully) clean and safe.

And just imagine if you unzipped the wallet the wrong way up and everything just fell out

haha, poppy fields! what I need next is a long exposure of some traffic

I like to keep fairly mobile when im out shooting, luckily the lee filter wallet fits perfectly in the big pocket next to your knee in a pair of combat trousers! I haven't managed to open it the wrong way up yet, thankfully!

I'm exactly the opposite - i've got a damaged achilles tendon (which may or maynot get better) and cant handle too much rough terrain at present. If I cant drive there and walk for 10mins max it dont happen
Also because I shoot IR as well I'm often carrying 3 camera bodies and maybe 4 lens so i've got a fekking enormous Hama Pro bag about the size of a picnic hamper

Ouch, how did you manage to damage your achillies tendon? I had a car crash last July, that put me out of action for 3-4 months which wasn't fun, I hope it gets better for you!

I've seen your IR stuff, its fascinating, do you have a camera thats been converted to just do IR or do you use filters? I manange to keep all my gear in one backpack so its not too bad, its heavy tho!

A new pair of Adidas 'Forest Hills' trainers believe it or not - they have quite a high ankle tab which aggrevated it. Then I went to the 'Big Chill' festival in August which is in quite a steep sided valley. After 5 days of hobbling up and down the steep sided hills my ankle was swollen to twice normal size and I had to be driven home. Its not been right since and the slightest stress and it flares up again.

I use both methods for IR (thats why 3 camera bodies = big bag ). I have a D90 for my 'normal' stuff, an IR converted D80 done by 'Lifepixel' in the U.S, and a D70 (the classic IR sensitive DSLR) which i use with Hoya R72 filter or Singh Ray I-ray filters
What i love about IR is the way it can take a very ordinary looking scene and totally change it - its sort of like side shifting into a slightly different dimension. This for instance was shot at Membury services on the M4 [link]

I'll have to remember to avoid them Adidas trainers in future! I hope it sorts itself out Dave, it sounds painful!

I find your IR stuff fascinating, that shot from the service station just looks so out of the ordinary, its hard to believe it was shot at such a mediocre location, like the side of the motorway!

Why this deviation has so low resolution?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidCraigEllis In reply to Sonorov [2010-05-13 20:19:15 +0000 UTC]

Because i upload low res, sharpened version as a deviation (800 x 531 pixel / 563 mb) and a large version (4166 x 2767 pixel / 6.89mb) as a print

Sonorov In reply to DavidCraigEllis [2010-05-13 20:34:23 +0000 UTC]

DavidCraigEllis In reply to Sonorov [2010-05-13 20:48:32 +0000 UTC]

thats because i picked 600 pixel wide as the viewing size when i uploaded
