I can see your curiosity growing - time to get out of the comfort zone and try a new technique mate - just imagine the vast possibilities of IR shots given the 'Grim' HDR treatment - could be very awesome

first thing i'd do mate is check if your camera picks up infrared. Try the TV remote test - get someone to point a remote conytrol towards you while holding one of the function buttons so its 'on' - take a photo of the end and if you can see a flash of light your cameras 'seeing' IR , if your picture shows nowt youve got a hot mirror on your sensor and no IR

Cheers Dave, just tried it and I can see the red light so it must be good, what kind of equipment do I need next? (I have a Canon 400D)

assuming you use a tripod , the only other thing needed is a filter - ebay seems cheapest - i would recommend the HOYA R72 which is 'industry standard' and used by most/reputedley the best - KOOD also do a good filter which they also call an R72 - its about half the price of the Hoya
You also need to know how to preset or measure a custom whitebalance on your camera

Thus armed you have all you need though there is a method to setting up and taking the shot

Cheers Dave, I'll give you a shout when I get the filter

Hold the presses!!!! , dont buy any filters yet mate...

According to D.C your camera isnt compatable for IR - and the 'remote' test isnt conclusive i've since found out.

try googling 'camera IR compatability' or similar - there are loads of sites that can supply the info.

I know that one - reference 'soul selling' have you thought about stock image sites? I sell piccys on a few and though it dont amount to a hill o' beans its a bit of extra income. Also its pretty bland images - you can sort of keep it seperate from your 'art' photography. Some people make very good livings from it

(i'm skint enough to be considering getting on an agency and going club DJing again, I'm too bloody old for that )

excellent work here.

Ir works really well here, i like the desaturated sepia colour retains over the heavy whites sometimes.

this photo is an example of it being more pleasent on the eye complimenting the well balance composition.

Thanks, I've found i can achieve that really bleached white effect on the foilage but its a bit harsh sometimes and everyone is using it so i've tried to back down a bit and i'm really pleased with these recent results
