wow, i dont understand ur process but the result is always amazing, do u sketch it out in pencil or always start off straight marker?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidDeb In reply to midgard229 [2011-04-16 07:16:26 +0000 UTC]

usually I start with unprecise shadows, I can always 'dilute' them if they aren't excatly where I wanna be and built around in sketching lines with watercolor pencils (they can also be 'half-erased' in any case)

very interesting, I want to try that. ive been experimenting with the combination, but never thought of it in that way, i dont think i can do it haha. amazing how you get such good results, love your work! thanks for the explanation

I am so amazed by your likeliness of every single character you draw! And you don't even sketch the features first, but just use the shadows! What is your secret? lol Any special tips you use to avoid using a sketch first?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidDeb In reply to AmandaDely [2011-04-15 22:11:50 +0000 UTC]

i still have to do the bordering sketch at some point anyway, but I prefer to start with shadows and built up details from eyes and facial features to calculate everything around as I won't be interested in anything else if my likeness isn't at my taste
unfortunately, there isn't any big secret to uncover, but take a lot of time and years of experience help
calculating distances and having a reference at the same size to check helps a lot

temperance, joy, & peace, longsuffering, faith, meekness.. how on Earth did you manage to incorporate those microscopic letters?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidDeb In reply to jeffzz111 [2011-04-14 12:06:43 +0000 UTC]

I painted them with small brush with opaque white, then I used a red or needed color to cut or ink over with a 0.03 multiliners to enhanced the accuracy, cuz with the brush only, it wasn't really easy to read...

jeffzz111 In reply to DavidDeb [2011-04-14 12:16:34 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the insight it would have been almost impossible with a brush; even so this surely must have been an eye-straining exercise - and they're in old-style fonts

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidDeb In reply to jeffzz111 [2011-04-14 12:22:45 +0000 UTC]

yeah, was quite difficult actually, but the opaque white is somekinda acrylic that dry fast and become hard, so you can 'cut' or 'break' some parts away, or just try to ink over with the same background tint, here red or yellow
and I'm keeping this one here as a returned card, so it won't go to the compagny or be inserted in packs, way too much work to give away
will you be interested in the product by the way, I don't think you collect cards?
will post more info soon
