Description
Note to DeviantART: I do not know if this falls under mature content. Homosexuality is mentioned, but there is nothing graphic involved. If the rating needs to be changed, or if I need to provide something to help comply with the guidelines, please let me know so I can do so as soon as I can. Thank you in advance.A note on Jim's character design:
Some folk over at the Portal of Evil wondered how my protrayal of Gays is going to be in this strip, and whatever or not I've actually met any homosexuals in real life (of is this merely a Queer Eye fanfict, Hurr Hurr Hurr and lots of [RADIO EDIT]). Someone said that I may have actually met some and not know it, mainly because they don't announce their lifestyle to the world.
That's what I'm shooting for when it comes to Jim Goodlow. Initially, I'm putting in him similar values to what I would have if I myself were gay. (I'm actually straight IRL, so LilMarcieMouse needn't worry ^-^) You can see that he's a member of the Gay-friendly conservative group 'Log Cabin Republicans,' and that he doesn't consider his sexual orientation a major part of who he is; if you don't want to know, he won't bother you with the details. He also has beliefs that run counter to what the general public would consider to be in this particular lifestyle. (Two examples: He considers choice as much a factor as to what makes a person gay on par with genetics, environment, and what not. Don't want to be gay, or don't want to anymore? You have his permission. He'd also tell younger people to hold off on deciding their orientation until they're more mature, being that there are more important things to worry aobut; like School Studies, and getting through that final boss in Final Fantasy XII.) It's not that I've made him to intentionally run counter with folks with agendas, but I wanted Jim to have a more realistic view on life in general, and that he's more than his gayness. It is my hopes that Jim's character is in par with the current trend to make Homosexuality more toleratable--a move started with recent programs in the media like Queer Eye--as well as counter the reputation I got when one of my characters used the 'F' word while telling off Zoycite in Sailor Moon: American Kitsune.
Oh, and if you think that Jim Goodlow is an self-insertion, (That's Adam Packbell's job, thank you so much) future strips will change that notion real quick. There are some things Jim have and does you wouldn't catch me dead in.

The Dresser could have been second hand, yet someone as seemingly educated as Jim would have removed it if any of it didn't apply to him. So good deductive reasoning on Scarlet's part!

I prefer homosexual conservatives to straight liberals xD.
A friend of mine recently quit the LCR, though. He thought they were spending too much time complaining about Republican candidates that didn't do more to support "gay rights" than they did supporting the conservative agenda.
Which is fine because they're Republican and not necessarily conservative, but I still believe he made an educated decision.

I know that I was pushing matters with the whole idea of making Jim Goodlow a homosexual in the first place, but I felt at the time it would make a good way to show how much I've matured from my fanficiton. Whatever or not I've succeeded remained to be seen, but at least my heart was in the right place.

LOL, many people would have taken your theme and turned it into the archetypical Shonen Ai bastardization of the original plot and throw in uncharacteristic persecution and passion until the story became saturated with bathos and melodrama.
So you were being quite original.

Shonen Ai, eh? Why haven't I thought of that?

A missed opportunity I guess

The phrase "Log Cabin Republicans" conjures up images of half-naked old white men lounging on bear-skin rugs in front of a roaring fireplace, sharing a bit of wine and gazing longingly into each other's eyes, as they go on to discuss how to achieve a smaller government.
And that image in inherently hilarious.

Hahahaa, log cabin republicans. Too bad it's such a self-defeating way to go.

The writing for this page is fairly well paced, and the framing, for the most part, isn't too disorienting. Except for that last panel there. It's really ambiguous. Is it a sticker on his mirror? Or what? The view is much too close up to tell. Plus there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to read the whole text. Not everyone is familiar with the Log Cabin Republicans, much less the Og Cabin Publicans.

So I should 'Pull the camera back' on that last panel, or at least reduce the size of the sticker. The later is easier for me to do. Thanks for the look-out, and I'm glad that the rest of the page are easier to read.

Alright, there we go, that makes a lot more sense. If I hadn't read the description I wouldn't have known what it said.

You don't really have to worry about stuff getting deleted off of deviantart until you're actually drawing all-out pornography. As long as it doesn't involve naked boners, you're basicialy golden to slap an adult warning label on it and rest easy.

Thanks for letting me know. However, there's going to be some scenes in the near future strips that would require discretely located camera angles
