Ha, fantastic. Good to see the Snob portrayed like I would imagine him being portrayed, in contrast to being constantly drawn as a cartoon. I've been working on a Midnight Heat fan made one sheet in my spare time. Did you ever complete a poster for that movie?

In terms of serious inquiry. How large are the dimensions on the actual canvas?

Three feet by two feet. It's fairly large.

24 x 36 inches, very nice.
Should be easy to frame it too if you wanted.

I'm surprised Brad doesn't hang it over his mantle piece... then again where would he put his Caligula action figures.

Fantastic work. I'd love that hanging on my wall, silently judging every time I watch something not directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

That's excellent. Even though I have no idea about what exactly will be happening in the movie (because you guys have done a great job at spoiling absolutely nothing), it's a great poster no matter what.
BTW, I would be interested in buying the original painting, but because I'm obviously not an art collector, I have no idea what a "serious inquiry" would look like (except considerably above 50 bucks, but I would've guessed that anyway). Also, I'm not sure if you'd ship to Germany.

DavidGobble In reply to grumpf [2012-08-04 19:18:38 +0000 UTC]
I'd be willing to ship it anywhere. Paying for shipping would be up to the buyer though. And serious inquiry would look more like upper three digits or lower four. I price my work usually based on cost of supplies and time spent. Once you spend thirty to forty hours on a piece you cant really let it go too cheap.

Thank you for the insight, I totally understand. Unfortunately, right now, I wouldn't be able to pay enough above the mid threes to call it "upper", so you better sell it to the other guy. (And I'll try to get one of the printed posters unless they're never sold outside of Cons.)

Great work, man. Is Brad's half-illuminated face going to be a running theme throughout your posters of his movies or is it just a coincidence? After all, two occurrences does not a pattern make.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DavidGobble In reply to WaterBasil [2012-08-04 09:35:23 +0000 UTC]
Coincidence. I love images that have very high contrast and it tends to be a theme of mine, but as for the posters it just kinda worked this way. Brad and I thought it would be hilarious if I painted him in the King Conan pose, so I tried to somewhat duplicate the lighting.

Yes, yes it does. However this was done in oil on canvas. I didn't waste thousands of dollars on art school for nothing.

Well, I'd hope not. That would be awfully sad. P.S. You forgot a comma after "However." I'm a bit OCD about grammar.

You realize, of course, that OCD is not something you can BE, it is something you can HAVE.
Don't blame me, I'm not the one who brought up grammar here.

Yeah, I noticed my wording after I already posted that comment. I AM OCD, however I am NOT OCD about grammar. I just have an annoying obssesion to point out and attempt to fix any grammatical errors I see. Also I know that OCD is something you have, and is not something you are, but where I live people say "I AM OCD" and not "I HAVE OCD." I don't know why, we just do.

I"m sorry, but were you insulting me? Becuase I feel that would be quite uncalled for. I know that digital art isn't incredibly easy, because I'm an amateur photography student and know that it takes skill to make good digital art, but it is easier than actual art.

I'm not saying that digital art isn't real art. I know that it can be incredibly difficult and people can make really good pieces with digital art, but I just think that painting will always be more difficult. I'm not trying to insult anyone. I know it takes real talent to make digital art.

Merlkir In reply to ryuflare [2012-08-04 09:26:54 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, you know nothing of digital art. By saying nonsense like "actual art" you only keep proving my point.

I am really sorry. I know that my phrasing made it seem like I was saying that digital art wasn't actual art, but I know that it is. I just didn't know what to call painting but "acutal" art. If I can rephrase my words, how about "old-fashioned" art?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Merlkir In reply to ryuflare [2012-08-04 20:08:44 +0000 UTC]
It's usually called "traditional" in the debates like this.
Anyway, it's in not really more difficult to make, the difficulties with materials (paper, paints and so on) are balanced by certain advantages.
The painting principles are the same for both, it's the tools that are different. There are people who can't stand the smell of paints and couldn't mix them, or prime canvases and stuff like that. But they're super good with a tablet.
And there are people who can draw on paper very well, but trying to draw with a tablet stylus makes them dizzy and they can't make a straight line.
Many people also can't wrap their heads around Photoshop, Painter or whatever other piece of software.
If anything, I'd say traditional art is more messy. I quite enjoy not having to clean my brushes and scrub paint of my floor.

I completely agree with this. I love having paint on me. I like the feel of the actual medium. And I don't get that with digital art. Not in the same way. It's an important tool, make no mistake about that, but to me the scratch of a quill is like music. Plus it comes to a matter of focus and knowledge as well. I can fuck around with photoshop for hours to try and do something I know I can do on paper in twenty minutes. But there is an odd joy in trying anyway.
