Oh my God! I've been waiting SO LONG for this --->My FIRST EVER fan art of Disney upcoming 2D masterpiece: "The Princess and the Frog"!!!
Whhhooooo hhhhoooowww!!!
It seems like I can't talk about "The Princess and the Frog" without getting a little bit emotional, (is that a tear drop in my eye right now while I'm writing these lines?! My god I'm such a fag!
) It's been a long 4.5 years or so since Disney released a hand drawn animated movie theatres (with you put a side Bambi 2). The last one was "Home on the Range" that didn't do that well in the boxoffice and with the fans, even though I have to say it had some amazing art! Once I've heard about this move that Disney was about to take into 3D animated movies I was overly depressed for some time, I felt like walking zombie walking around life with nothing to look up for and a big hole in my heart. The classic 2D hand drawn Disney movies are an enormous part of my life. I have no idea where would I have been with out them really. Bambi, Snow White, Peter Pan and Lilo, Pocahontas, Koda, Aourora and Taran, Pinocchio Lday, Pongo and Aladdin and so many more of these brilliant characters have shaped me into the person I am today.
They are the reason I draw! The reason I make a wish upon a star every now and then, the reason I have faith and trust in pixie dust, the wired reason why I whistle while I'm working, and most of all the reason why I don't think that the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like me!
After "Home on the Range" was released on DVD/VHS with no trailer for the next Disney classic I knew there will be some gap in my heart for who knows how long? Will they ever release another 2D classic? or is it really the end? Well, being the Disney fan that I am I knew loosing hope is never an option for me - and a new Disney classic will make it's way to theatres soon enough even if I had to march on to the Disney Studio and start a hunger strike!
One can only imagine my feelings when I've heard of (the then titled) "The Frog Prince" project Disney has in store for us. I guess every Disney fan felt that special type on heart beat you get when you hear of a new movie! Cause to me anyway, it is more then a film - it's a whole set of characters, songs, and tears of joy that from now will be a part of my life FOREVER!
I can not wait any longer for "The Princess and the Frog" to be released. I have already fallen in love with the character of Tiana - Disney's first African American Heroine! It is about time! And knowing Ron Clements and John Musker are in charge of this project let's me know that this will be a TRUE heart warming classic. You can't go wrong with these two.
This weekend I took the time to bring some 'frog' magic to my Disney fan art... It was raining here all day long, a thing that always gives me extra inspiration...
I'm sorry I babbled so much this time around, I just had to express myself in words too!
I really hope you'll like this drawing - and remember by saying this is the first "Princess/Frog' fan art I've done, meaning there will be a lot more.
And I REALLY HOPE YOU ALL GO AND SEE THE MOVIE when it'll be released this December and enjoy every minute of it - I'm sure I will!

I completely know how you feel! I was so afraid that classic animation had gone out the window and I hope it does well and encorages those at Disney to continue with the works of art that made Disney great to begin with.

I hate how they changed her name from Maddy to Tiana and how so many people had such a huge problem with her. >: [ I'm African American and I wasn't offended by her name or anything. Geez, people finally get what they want then complain about it.
ANYWAY!!
I like "Tiana". I think she is adorable and i can't wait to see the movie.

I really don't know what to expect from this movie... The trailer didn't look at all promising to me. (But then, I don't care much for princesses these days...)
I do miss Disney's 2D animation, though, and will probably see it once it comes out on DVD.

I was hoping that Disney would get back to 2D art. The 3D stuff is good, but the 2D princesses are classics. You can't ever go wrong with that.

anyways, i took one look at this and beat cyber feet to youtube to search for this trailer, i found it and then one of concept art as well, it looks AMAZING.
I'm ecstatic that disney are going back to their original style (i say back to basics but there's nothing basic about it) with songs and music and 2d animations...i'm so excited i could pee.
But i'll restrain myself.

Wonderful job, David! It really looks beautiful. I'm excited about it being a hand-drawn one, too! I'm always bitching at people about how much I miss the older cartoons where everything was made by hand. They really are more beautiful.

I too am so very pleased and excited that Disney have decided to go back to their roots and make a 2D film again!
None of their more recent films have come close to toutching me the way Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, Dumbo, Cinderella etc. did when I was young.
They have just lacked that disney magic that made their classic films so beautiful and enjoyable.
When I first heard of 'The Frog Princess' I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for days. You can be sure i'll be the first one in line for the first showing of The Princess and the Frog!
Anyway..
This is absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to see what else your planning to do!

This piece is absolutely stunning and I have to agree about Disney going all 3-D on us in the last decade. I mean don't get me wrong, they've come up with some good ones like Finding Nemo *huggles Dory* and Wall-E, which I haven't seen that one yet. But I'm glad they're getting back into the classic 2-D masterpieces! My favorites are: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King
I really love how you brought out the beauty of the princess with her dress and her eyes just pop out at you and make you go "WOW" in a really good way. I love the colors you chose, it's very peaceful

My friends and I were talking a few days ago about how it was sad that Disney never made classics anymore, that they were modern, 3D, and redo's of older movies, which made it look bad. but this is getting me excited!

From what I've heard, Disney's finally starting to realize that they need to leave the 3D animation to Pixar and are planning to rebrand themselves as a 2D animation powerhouse, so, hopefully, we'll be seeing many more 2D animated classics to come, along with "The Princess and the Frog." As a 2D animation student myself, I cannot wait to see this film, and I'm hoping Disney keeps with 2D, as it is, in my opinion what they have always done best!

It really doesn't look like it would interest me that much, but I am glad that Disney is starting to do this type of animation again like they did in the '80s and 90s.
And I think that this dress would be absolutely GORGEOUS if it was red. Not that it's not pretty already, but I think it'd look like a rose dress.

You said it, man. Kids these days have no idea how big a part Disney animated movies played in our lives, during childhood. It was back when there was no internet to research the next movie or what's going on. Seeing a Disney movie in a movie theater, and not knowing what the next one would be until the following year when you waited for it to preview before the VHS movie started. Can you believe I have a friend who was born in 1992?! I always think, that's when Aladdin was released and I went crazy and absolutely HAD to have every Aladdin souvenir out there: postcards, pencils, the priceless doll (that was a crazy expensive $16 at the time).
I totally know what you mean when you go on about this. It's like we're getting part of our childhood back with this new 2D movie. I bet you in all the theaters there will be a LOT of nostalgic "grown-ups" when it's released.

I feel the same way about the movie! I can't wait for this film to come out, and when it's successful, it'll bring traditional animation back! The plot looks so great and I've heard from a couple of people that it has an amazing plot!!! (one that no one could guess!) It's going to be an excellent movie and I love your picture of Tiana!
