Description
Oh my God! I've been waiting SO LONG for this --->My FIRST EVER fan art of Disney upcoming 2D masterpiece: "The Princess and the Frog"!!!
Whhhooooo hhhhoooowww!!!
It seems like I can't talk about "The Princess and the Frog" without getting a little bit emotional, (is that a tear drop in my eye right now while I'm writing these lines?! My god I'm such a fag!
It's been a long 4.5 years or so since Disney released a hand drawn animated movie theatres (with you put a side Bambi 2). The last one was "Home on the Range" that didn't do that well in the boxoffice and with the fans, even though I have to say it had some amazing art! Once I've heard about this move that Disney was about to take into 3D animated movies I was overly depressed for some time, I felt like walking zombie walking around life with nothing to look up for and a big hole in my heart. The classic 2D hand drawn Disney movies are an enormous part of my life. I have no idea where would I have been with out them really. Bambi, Snow White, Peter Pan and Lilo, Pocahontas, Koda, Aourora and Taran, Pinocchio Lday, Pongo and Aladdin and so many more of these brilliant characters have shaped me into the person I am today.
They are the reason I draw! The reason I make a wish upon a star every now and then, the reason I have faith and trust in pixie dust, the wired reason why I whistle while I'm working, and most of all the reason why I don't think that the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like me!
After "Home on the Range" was released on DVD/VHS with no trailer for the next Disney classic I knew there will be some gap in my heart for who knows how long? Will they ever release another 2D classic? or is it really the end? Well, being the Disney fan that I am I knew loosing hope is never an option for me - and a new Disney classic will make it's way to theatres soon enough even if I had to march on to the Disney Studio and start a hunger strike!
One can only imagine my feelings when I've heard of (the then titled) "The Frog Prince" project Disney has in store for us. I guess every Disney fan felt that special type on heart beat you get when you hear of a new movie! Cause to me anyway, it is more then a film - it's a whole set of characters, songs, and tears of joy that from now will be a part of my life FOREVER!
I can not wait any longer for "The Princess and the Frog" to be released. I have already fallen in love with the character of Tiana - Disney's first African American Heroine! It is about time! And knowing Ron Clements and John Musker are in charge of this project let's me know that this will be a TRUE heart warming classic. You can't go wrong with these two.
This weekend I took the time to bring some 'frog' magic to my Disney fan art... It was raining here all day long, a thing that always gives me extra inspiration...
I'm sorry I babbled so much this time around, I just had to express myself in words too!
I really hope you'll like this drawing - and remember by saying this is the first "Princess/Frog' fan art I've done, meaning there will be a lot more.
And I REALLY HOPE YOU ALL GO AND SEE THE MOVIE when it'll be released this December and enjoy every minute of it - I'm sure I will!
Thank you for all who read this long 'artist comment'
Have a Wonderful, Magical Day Everyone!
BIG
- David...

YAY! I love it. I've been so excited about all this new Disney 2D love that I see everywhere. David, did you see that first low quality picture of prince Naveen in human form yet? I can't wait for the trailer. They say it might either be released on february 24th, during Mardi Gras, or on the new platinum edition Pinnochio DVD. Either way, I seriously can't wait to see all my Disney animator heroes back at work. Andreas Deja, Mark Henn, Eric Goldberg. CAN'T WAIT!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! And I'm so excited too!
I'm so glad someone finally decided that 2D was cool still and used it for this animation and I'm really happy to see some awesome fan art of her already! XDDDD

I'm also VERY excited about this movie coming out. I was very upset with Disney when they said that they were going to end their 2D films. That pissed me off because
1. A shitton of very talented people got fired, which breaks my animators heart even more than when John K wrote about how shitty it was to animate television shows in the 80s
2. It obviously was a marketing scheme. I will admit a good one, but still PISSES ME OFF because they fired so many people.
I really, really, REALLY hope Disney took back a good majority of the animators they fired after Home on the Range and put them to work on this film. This film should be treated like a work of art. Not just because its hand drawn, but because it can (unfortunately) make or break the publics view on this amazing form of animation.
The only thing I don't like so far is that the princess's appearance doesn't match the era shes supposed to be living in (the 1920s), had it been any other decade/century, I honestly would have not given a shit. Thats just my personal beef, and I'm sure it won't effect the movie, as none of their other period pieces (Except for the Hunchback of Notre Dam) have been really accurate to the era it's supposed to be set in.
Like I said, I don't really care. I just really like the 20s. A lot
Anyways omg I need to shut the fuck up,
TL;DR I AM EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE. DON'T LET ME DOWN DISNEY.

Wow, she's totally gorgeous! I love her dress, too.
How do you get the glowing effect on the fireflies? I haven't found a reliable way to do that so it looks good.

Its gorgeous! She's definitely a true Disney Princess!
While its great that she's the first Adrican-American heroine--that matters little when you think that she's SO CUTE!
*ahem* okay, overload aside, I really do think she's way prettier than some other Disney Princesses and I think she'll wind up among my most favorites along with Belle and Mulan. ^_^

Yeah! I did not know Disney was going to do a 2D movie ever again! THANK GOD! Never heard of that one in Germany, but I hope we'll see it here too. And an afro-american heroine - this day is getting better and better.
The dress is absolutely perfect! Beautiful work, as always!

wOW! First of all you completely nailed that Disney look once again. This could be straight out of dvd cover. I must say I was completely shocked to find out about the movie in your description and so happy know somebody else feels the same way about Disney's 2d movies. I'm really glad (and sadly surprised because it took so long) that the main character will be African American. beautiful color scheme and overall I love all your stuff to bits.

Gasp. Yay.
I'm really excited too - although it seems like, to me, Disney hasn't really made a good 2d movie in forevsss, so my heart is still a bit cautious... I don't wanna get my hopes up and then be disappointed! I'm trying to be mostly optimistic though...
I LOVEEE your tribute to Tiana, and I also really enjoyed reading your "long artist's comment" - especially the line "and most of all the reason why I don't think that the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like me!" Good stuff

wow really really pretty i tend just to comment on your pics of sexy men lol (since i'm gay >_> <_< ) but this is just absolutely gorgeous, and i agree it's nice to have another 2D princess film
but i won't lie and say that i'm also not excited for the 2010 disney princess movie Rapunzel which is 3D, but they're doing it to look like an oil painting, and from the few pics they've released it really is pretty... also the voice of Rapunzel (at the moment) is Kristin Chenoweth who is my absolute favorite actress/singer... she's my madonna ^_^ (but sadly no where near as famous)

Wow, that dress is so gorgeous.
I love traditional animation, CGI just doesn't have the same kind of magic.
Growing up in the 90's I loved my Pocahontas and Lion King and it would have been great if that era of animation could have lasted forever.
But alas, things have changed, CGI is commercially more viable and easier to make.
I blame Dreamworks. although when they did make some good traditional cartoons.
I look forward to this movie. Only downside is that her name is Tiana. I will be constantly reminded of that horrible girl who went to school with me.

Awww! I love this! I was so excited when I heard the news. I remember reading it and then busting into tears because 2D was coming back. I just don't think it would be right to have a princess with 3D art. None of the others are. I agree with what you said too. Disney is apart of my life same as you. I look forward to seeing more from you. I've loved a lot of your work. Keep the magic alive! ~<3 Devaigh
