Description
Oh my God! I've been waiting SO LONG for this --->My FIRST EVER fan art of Disney upcoming 2D masterpiece: "The Princess and the Frog"!!!
Whhhooooo hhhhoooowww!!!
It seems like I can't talk about "The Princess and the Frog" without getting a little bit emotional, (is that a tear drop in my eye right now while I'm writing these lines?! My god I'm such a fag!
It's been a long 4.5 years or so since Disney released a hand drawn animated movie theatres (with you put a side Bambi 2). The last one was "Home on the Range" that didn't do that well in the boxoffice and with the fans, even though I have to say it had some amazing art! Once I've heard about this move that Disney was about to take into 3D animated movies I was overly depressed for some time, I felt like walking zombie walking around life with nothing to look up for and a big hole in my heart. The classic 2D hand drawn Disney movies are an enormous part of my life. I have no idea where would I have been with out them really. Bambi, Snow White, Peter Pan and Lilo, Pocahontas, Koda, Aourora and Taran, Pinocchio Lday, Pongo and Aladdin and so many more of these brilliant characters have shaped me into the person I am today.
They are the reason I draw! The reason I make a wish upon a star every now and then, the reason I have faith and trust in pixie dust, the wired reason why I whistle while I'm working, and most of all the reason why I don't think that the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like me!
After "Home on the Range" was released on DVD/VHS with no trailer for the next Disney classic I knew there will be some gap in my heart for who knows how long? Will they ever release another 2D classic? or is it really the end? Well, being the Disney fan that I am I knew loosing hope is never an option for me - and a new Disney classic will make it's way to theatres soon enough even if I had to march on to the Disney Studio and start a hunger strike!
One can only imagine my feelings when I've heard of (the then titled) "The Frog Prince" project Disney has in store for us. I guess every Disney fan felt that special type on heart beat you get when you hear of a new movie! Cause to me anyway, it is more then a film - it's a whole set of characters, songs, and tears of joy that from now will be a part of my life FOREVER!
I can not wait any longer for "The Princess and the Frog" to be released. I have already fallen in love with the character of Tiana - Disney's first African American Heroine! It is about time! And knowing Ron Clements and John Musker are in charge of this project let's me know that this will be a TRUE heart warming classic. You can't go wrong with these two.
This weekend I took the time to bring some 'frog' magic to my Disney fan art... It was raining here all day long, a thing that always gives me extra inspiration...
I'm sorry I babbled so much this time around, I just had to express myself in words too!
I really hope you'll like this drawing - and remember by saying this is the first "Princess/Frog' fan art I've done, meaning there will be a lot more.
And I REALLY HOPE YOU ALL GO AND SEE THE MOVIE when it'll be released this December and enjoy every minute of it - I'm sure I will!
Thank you for all who read this long 'artist comment'
Have a Wonderful, Magical Day Everyone!
BIG
- David...

*sigh* dA is the only place I find people as happy about this as I am (and everyone should be). When I tell friends and family and strangers in the street "can you believe we only have so-and-so many more months to go until Disney releases their next 2D feature length film?! And they said they'd never do it again!", they just kind of stare and nod.
Not that I don't adore Pixar's creative and beautiful stories, but 3D is not necessarily the "next step" in animation in my opinion, and it would be a sad day indeed when people can't appreciate the hard work and creativity of hand-drawn animation. That's why I hoping Miyazaki will live forever...
I am so happy you did a drawing of this. Tiana looks gorgeous, and I can't say enough about the dress.

Yeap, heard of the movie too when they were announcing the making of the film, it was odd when I knew about the skin color of the new disney psincess, but well, who cares, I like black people :3 they are so unresistible to look at, especially with that amussing color and thier hair XD anyway, hope they release it soon, just as the rapunzel one, that is one I am really looking forward to see.

I'm so stoked! I've been so angry and mournful of the lack of 2d work from Disney lately too. It's just no where near the same. (ratatouille was a piece of shit! >< )
I'm reallly reaaaaalllly excited! ^_^

you're not the only one who feels that way, don't be ashamed. I almost cried when Enchanted started...I can't imagine what I'll be like when I see this film. Beautiful work, by the way.
Did you design the dress yourself or is it from a screencap?

I'm put off by it simlpy because it's African-"American" and not just "African". I'd like to see another Princess movie that's got culture I don't see everyday on the street. Like Pocahontas was. Something with a history that I wasn't taught every year about in school.
When I heard the princess was going to be balck I was excited and hoping for some strong African princess bringing some well deserved lesson to her people. Instead I'm looking square into the face of something thinly vieled having to do with urban culture.
It's a nice picture though.

A beautiful rendition of her, I really look forward to more artwork of her from you! I hope to see more at least... you did promise. The colors are beautiful on this and you captured her so well - right down to the cute little dimple I fell in love with in the preview.
I'm just really glad I'm not the only one this excited for the new movie! Let's hope it's great!

She is gorgeous. It's a shame that it has taken Disney so long to have an African American heroine, but better late than never. I am so excited! After 22 years of life finally a princess that looks like me. Your artwork is so beautiful like everything else you draw!

Oh my goodness.
I feel your PAIN. I have been so mad at Disney. Like, seriously. I've been really depressed about it, as dandy as Pixar is, it's DISNEYland, not PIXARland.
And yeah! Disney was pretty much my whole childhood (well, if you put Pokemon aside). After Home on the Range came out I was like, "Cool, what's next?" But... nothing came. It was really sad.
...but yes.
I am really looking forward to seeing this.
Great job on this picture, it's beautiful~ <3

I confess, I have never ever commented on your work. I've always been to afraid to! Your artwork is always beautiful and I'm terrified I'll say something silly and it will never really say how I feel.
However, I just HAD to comment on this.
Like many other people I really miss the era of the "Disney Renaissance". Out of that time the last movie I had ever seen from them in theaters was Hercules, and then several years later I saw Brother Bear. Don't get me wrong, Brother Bear was a beautiful movie in all sense. It had wonderful animation, a great story, and such diversity! However, it still didn't really compare to me to the classic fairy tales.
I was so excited and nearly cried when I saw the opening trailer for The Princess and the Frog. Your rendition of her is beautiful. What gets me most though is her dress. You incorperated so many elements and so well! I love how the dress looks so...swampy, you can see the lily pad in it and all.
Thanks so much for being a wonderful artist. It's about time I quit watching from afar and just watch you!

Like you need another comment on this but I'm going to tell you anyways,
1) the picture is awesome! it looks great!
2) I read your comment and i am in complete awe with you! I too am a bit of a Disney nut and without the timeless classics like Peter pan or The Little Mermaid, I wouldn't have the faith or trust to believe that one day Tinkerbell will come and take me to Neverneverland!
Disney is too the soul reason why I draw and am going to Art School for. I wish to work for Disney one day or Pixar. Your comments really touched me and I just want to thank you for that alone.

I for one am truly grateful for Disney for finally doing this! Even though I don't consider her the first Black Disney princess ( I consider Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire the first Black princess. I mean come on, look at her face, her nose, and lips!), Tiana will be the first Black AMERICAN princess, and that is a truly big step for them. I think Tiana will be such a wonderful idol and inspiration for ALL little girls, not just Black girls in American and overseas. Tiana is a story of overcoming obstacles and going for your dreams, and that lesson can be taught to ALL little girls. David, you've truly done Tiana justice, and I cannot wait to see more. You've made me cry too, just like Anika...the voice actress for Tiana..did when she first saw the doll.
Thank you very much.

I understand you, I absolutely WANT back the 2-D Disney Movies, I want it SO BAD!!!!! I am so glad that now with John Lasseter the things are changing and 2d movies will come back! I mean, I like 3d movies but they absolutely can't challenge the beauty and the emotions of the "old-school" 2D animated features!!!!
This is really a nice art, you're great!! I like Tiana...

Oversensitive much? Or just self-righteous police?
I am a homosexual person and I found absolutely nothing offensive in the way David used the word.
I suggest you put down your fiery sword and focus on ART.

I know exactly how you feel. I mean, c'mon! After Monster Inc. it went only downhill, with possibly the only highlight in Treasure Planet. When I saw the trailer for Bolt I felt like that was most definitely enough!
I'm really eager to see their new fairytale in original glory. I also want to see Rapunzel, although that's going to be CGI again. Got to wait for the trailer then >.>
Anywho, great piece! I adore the background

I feel the exact same way as you when it comes to the 2D Disney classics. They're the reason I got into drawing and animation too! I'm glad to see someone feels the same way about the massive 3D bastardization that seems to have taken over all the once 2D characters. I'm SO glad they're going back to their roots with this film. I hope it does really really well!!
Also, your art is incredible!

I totally agree with you, and I am Not a fan of Disney's 3D, I simply just don't support it, it's like they're trying to be funny, but they try too hard. Go back to the classic 2C for crying out load, that's what Disney do best! I'm really longing for this one!

I read the whole description and I must say I feel compleatly the same way. I'm not really a big fan of digital animated features. Traditional animations seem to have more soul and more personality than digital animations. I waited so long for Disney to make a new traditional animated film. I just can't wait for The Princess and the Frog to come in December. And it's just sooo awesome that it's Disneys first african-american princess. Gosh I just love it!
Awesome fanart picture btw

I, too, am very excited about this movie. I've been waiting for a new 2-D Disney princess movie for a long time. I'm a little apprehensive about how it will turn out, though. It seems like Disney is trying way to hard to be politcally correct with this film, to the point of sacrificing historical accuracy.
All the same, this is a lovely piece, and I can't wait to see more Frog and the Princess fanart from you in the future!
