Oh my God! I've been waiting SO LONG for this --->My FIRST EVER fan art of Disney upcoming 2D masterpiece: "The Princess and the Frog"!!!
Whhhooooo hhhhoooowww!!!
It seems like I can't talk about "The Princess and the Frog" without getting a little bit emotional, (is that a tear drop in my eye right now while I'm writing these lines?! My god I'm such a fag!
) It's been a long 4.5 years or so since Disney released a hand drawn animated movie theatres (with you put a side Bambi 2). The last one was "Home on the Range" that didn't do that well in the boxoffice and with the fans, even though I have to say it had some amazing art! Once I've heard about this move that Disney was about to take into 3D animated movies I was overly depressed for some time, I felt like walking zombie walking around life with nothing to look up for and a big hole in my heart. The classic 2D hand drawn Disney movies are an enormous part of my life. I have no idea where would I have been with out them really. Bambi, Snow White, Peter Pan and Lilo, Pocahontas, Koda, Aourora and Taran, Pinocchio Lday, Pongo and Aladdin and so many more of these brilliant characters have shaped me into the person I am today.
They are the reason I draw! The reason I make a wish upon a star every now and then, the reason I have faith and trust in pixie dust, the wired reason why I whistle while I'm working, and most of all the reason why I don't think that the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like me!
After "Home on the Range" was released on DVD/VHS with no trailer for the next Disney classic I knew there will be some gap in my heart for who knows how long? Will they ever release another 2D classic? or is it really the end? Well, being the Disney fan that I am I knew loosing hope is never an option for me - and a new Disney classic will make it's way to theatres soon enough even if I had to march on to the Disney Studio and start a hunger strike!
One can only imagine my feelings when I've heard of (the then titled) "The Frog Prince" project Disney has in store for us. I guess every Disney fan felt that special type on heart beat you get when you hear of a new movie! Cause to me anyway, it is more then a film - it's a whole set of characters, songs, and tears of joy that from now will be a part of my life FOREVER!
I can not wait any longer for "The Princess and the Frog" to be released. I have already fallen in love with the character of Tiana - Disney's first African American Heroine! It is about time! And knowing Ron Clements and John Musker are in charge of this project let's me know that this will be a TRUE heart warming classic. You can't go wrong with these two.
This weekend I took the time to bring some 'frog' magic to my Disney fan art... It was raining here all day long, a thing that always gives me extra inspiration...
I'm sorry I babbled so much this time around, I just had to express myself in words too!
I really hope you'll like this drawing - and remember by saying this is the first "Princess/Frog' fan art I've done, meaning there will be a lot more.
And I REALLY HOPE YOU ALL GO AND SEE THE MOVIE when it'll be released this December and enjoy every minute of it - I'm sure I will!

I'm with you, I actually cried when I heard that Disney was only doing 3d movies! Most of my childhood is built on Disney 2d classics! I'm looking forward to this film SO MUCH!!! Beautiful art, I love how everything seems to glow!

I know that that feels. Waiting for 2D animation for disney to come alive again especially when the directors for this has done The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Hercules, I have high hopes for this one. Excellent job on Tiana though.

ohhh! Your feelings match my own in anticipation and love for this unreleased classic!!! Your art is definitely astounding and beautiful. It's incredible how you stir up emotions with what you draw. And knowing how the inspiration came from Disney classics makes it that much more appealing!! I can't go a single day without singing some Disney tune. And I can't wait to see more from Princess and the Frog.

I have a question for you dude, first realize that you atre one of my most fav artists I just wanna know if you could do me teeny-tiny favor. You kbow your Disney Heroes series? Y'know, the ones with the super sexy guys from Disney movies? Well i was wonderin' if you could do a picture of Simba from "The Lion King", he's an awesome guy from an awesome movie and I consider him a Disney Hero. You could do one of him as a lion or a human, or better yet, do both!Just make sure it's super SEXY! Ahem, I'd be happy if you did it, just keep it in mind. See ya' later!

I'm also really excited for Disney's return to traditional animation. Their older 2D movies are a big part of the reason I chose animation as a major...and their departure from it is why when I tell people my major is animation they only know what I'm talking about when I put the word computer in front of it. I hope this movie changes that.

You said it! I feel the same way. I was overjoyed when I heard the news about the Princess and the Frog. Some people are like: big deal, there are still Disney movies coming out right? But there is just something about 2D animation that isn`t there in 3D, the actual DRAWINGS that move. It`s just something I grew up with and that cannot be replaced with rendered movies, no matter how beautiful they might be.

You don't have to worry, as soon as the tickets are up for booking I will get one. I've been totally excited about all this since I first heard about it and saw the trailer some months ago. Sure, movies like Wall-E, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. are good, but NOTHING can be compared to a 2d animated Disney film a la The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Tarzan or whatever. I hope they (Disney) will realize their mistake by stop producing 2d animated films, and instead give us a whole new era of new, wonderful ones! One can only hope, eh?

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Every year I counted down the days to the next Disney Animated Feature, and every year I dragged SOMEONE with me to the theatres to see it the day it released (or as soon as I could get to the theatres). I was very saddened when I learned Home on the Range was the last 2D film. I even did a piece based on the ending of Disney 2D (shameless self promotion of art):

I wanted to work for Disney and be a Supervising Animator for them (a la Glen Keane, Mark Henn, Andreas Deja~ those were the three animators I looked up to) when I was a kid and teenager...but Disney 2D fell fast during my early college years and I felt I needed to let go of that dream. But I still love 2D, and I love story telling, and I hope hope HOPE The Frog Princess is great beyond words.
Hahaha~ and as I type this my iTunes is playing the Mickey Mouse song! I find that amusing... M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E...

I know what you mean! I never noticed until I read your words how Disney is important to me! I remember when I was 5, I loved to draw Dumbo fanarts, and later, Lion King's characters!

I agreeeeee! I've missed 2d animation A LOT, for all this time I've seen only Dreamorks 2d animation movies... they were good, of course, but it's not disney!! And when I saw the very first part of Enchanted I was all "Why do they make only 3d movies?? Look at 2d animation!! It's amazing!!!"
Tiana is going to be a wonderful princess, I bet on it!! Even from the trailer she looks determined, funny and sweet!!

Your comment really expressed everything that hand drawn Disney movies meant to me. It makes me sad that they don't hand draw anymore. I'm no artist but the music in those cartoons have helped me through rough times. I truly cannot wait for this movie to come out.
