Another thing people keep throwing fits about: her being wealthy. Um, apparently, they aren't aware that there were/ are pretty wealthy African Americans, especially in New Orleans. That says more about them than and them not knowing their own history that Disney at this point. Or that MOST of Lousiana/ New Orleans is mutlti-racial.. whether they want to admit it or not.

Also, I hate to burst your bubble, but in real life, Pocahontas thought John Smith was a moron. :/ In all fairness to Disney, they kept the myth to promote interracial marriage and relationships. They tried. I really, really hope they suceed this time. *crosses fingers*

I love this picture for two reasons, the first being, this is a beautiful image of both Tiana and Naveen together. Their clothes, the colours, and the their plain character design is all very lovely.
The second reasons being, that it reminds me of my parents.

I'm really upset how people are dealing with Prince Naveen, because he's white(if he even is white, when I first saw him, I thought he was hispanic.) In a way, I feel like people are saying that it's not okay to have a black/white couple.

I can understand wanting a black princess and prince, since most of the time the woman have the same color man.(Mulan/Shang, Aladdin/Jasmine, Snow White/Prince Charming...etc.) Yet there are mixed couples in Disney(Phoebus/Esmeralda, Pocahontas/John Smith, Lady/Tramp...etc.) So what's wrong with a black and white couple? Nothing, nothing at all. My mother is black and my father is white, and they've been happily married for fifteen years. So I don't see whats wrong with that happening to this Disney couple.

Great reply~! I agree with you. But, I think Prince Naveen is French or French Creole, which would fit in with the city's history. ^^

Love the swampy color scheme. I can't believe I haven't favorited this yet! I took a gander at your gallery and I gotta say, 'keep up the awesome work!'

I thank you for these words and the beautiful picture. Movie hasn't come out and I L.O.V.E. this couple!

First of all, I'd like to say that this is a really cool picture. I mean, wow. The detail is awesome and they look EXACTLY like the Disney renditions.

I have a responce for your description...oh here it is:

I agree with TakeoX and I'd also like to add that the only prince of African Decent (that i can think of) from Disney is Simba... (and there was an episode in Aladdin)

Disney: Oh come on! you guys have... Simba! That's gotta count for something! And remember that Aladdin episode? Eh? Eh?

To be honest, I'm extremely happy that there is a black princess, but the job is incomplete... or maybe a little unfair since the other princesses get heroes / princes of the same people group, but not the Black one.

Now i'm all for seeing the good inside of others, and even loving them regardless of the color of their skin... but really, they could have put a black prince in there.

I mean, why can't I (or someone like me) be a hero, a prince, or the man a princess longs for, or unwittingly falls in love with?

possible response: We have a black President! What more do you want!?

(although i wasn't even talking about the presidency)

Me: Fairness. Real fairness. AT LEAST based on the track record! White princess, White hero.[Sleeping Beauty, Snow White etc.] Asian princess Asian prince (so to speak)[Mulan] Arab princess, Arab hero [Aladdin] I'd also like to see a Latin prince and princess... and for some reason, I don't think Disney will have a problem with that.

Ok, it's been on my mind. My feelings aren't really again the couple.

It would be cool of Disney (and others) to portray a prominent Black man without him being some kind of rapper/singer/performer or athlete! (martial artist would be cool too!)

Thanks for your time.

Prince Naveen is huge copaired to Tiana! He's one hand could coverup her face and crush her head or smother her. But he would never do that.
He's still fine as hack though, as Frog and human.

Your enthusiam for Disney has inspired me to work on things I've wanted to do for a while! I also agree completely with you on the concept of love knowing no predjudice or color. I think Naveen and Tiana are a lovely couple, and the people who are against that have serious issues.

I also think people are just upset that when Disney finally made a feature film with an African American princess, they didn't make an African American Prince too. There has already been a middle Eastern prince and white prince, even Asian (in Mulan) so why not African?

Despite being in a time period where segregation and Jim Crow was very prominent this shows how America is truly a melting pot of cultures. People say that little black boys will think they can't be a prince...now having past experience of being a little black boy, I can say...they won't care.

*jaw drops* Oh my god, those two are gorgeous! The swamp makes for a good background and the lily pads and lotus flowers are a nice touch. I have to say, green's a good colour for Tiana and Naveen. Speaking of Naveen, there's still traces from when when he was a frog with the eyes and some of his other features. Those two can't seem to keep their eyes off each other... so sweet. Are you sure you're not a Disney artist?

As for what you said, you do bring up a good point... but Naveen is already so ethnically ambiguous that I don't really see why there's the backlash. He could easily pass off for a number of different ethnicities and he hasn't been assigned one by Disney, so people can perceive what they want to see him as. I looked up his name and it's Indian. It means 'new' which is well suited 'cause he and Tiana are presenting something new in Disney films.

Personally, it's not a big deal for me 'cause I'm a Tamil girl that grew up in a diverse community where there were a lot of multiracial families that got along fine with everyone else. I think the only problem was that the kids from those families had more to do on Multicultural Night. Anyways, about the lack of African-American male leads, I think that Disney is starting to pave the road for more of them in the future. But since the animation process takes a long time, it might be best to be patient.

All I'm asking is for more ethnically diverse casts with equal roles for all of them... but you can still see that progress is being made.

Great Picture, amazing detail makes me really excited about seeing the film however I have my own concerns about The Princess and the Frog. First, Tiana, the black princess, is paired up with a white prince (or at least a prince who looks white and is voiced by a Brazilian actor who also looks white) who has to save her from a black villain. Some might argue that portraying interracial marriage in film is good – but why then weren’t any of the white princesses given non-white princes to save them from white villains? And since Disney doesn’t give white princesses non-white princes, isn’t this interracial relationship at the expense of black boys who deserve a hero just as much as black girls deserve a heroine? Originally the prince was explicitly reported as being the jazz-loving monarch of a European country. By giving the prince an olive, but still white, complexion and a Brazilian accent, Disney gets to go forward with their original white hero yet make him ambiguous enough to not be unequivocally criticized as white at the same time. Furthermore, there’s a disturbing racial subtext to this plot. As intellectual Gayatri Spivak says, one of the main justifications of colonialism has been β€œwhite men saving brown women from brown men.” Here, that racist and sexist notion is invoked. The plot also follows Disney’s pattern of making their evil characters more β€œethnic” and darker than their good characters. For example, the Chinese have wheat colored skin in Mulan while the Huns are dark gray. Aladdin is tan with European features while Jafar is brown with Arabic features.

Another charge levied at critics of The Princess and the Frog is that they are trifling to β€œwaste time” getting agitated over cartoons. But the fact is all media, especially those directed at children in their formative years, shape how people see and interact with the world. That’s why fairy tales have morals and Sesame Street has educational value. Children are especially malleable by media because they haven’t or have just begun developing critical thinking skills and are just getting their first and foundational impressions of the world.

Disney recognizes the power of media. The company has often used its films to political ends. For example, Donald Duck was placed in a series of World War II films designed to make children passionate supporters of American troops and enemies of the Nazis and the Japanese army. Then later, Donald Duck was used in the films Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros to promote Franklin Roosevelt’s Good Neighbor policy towards Latin America. Clearly, if cartoons were β€œjust cartoons” Disney wouldn’t make such films....

Sorry for the long post, I'm just passionate about the subject of my race's portrayal in media!

I think it's hilarious that some people still live in the dark ages and see interracial relationships to be shocking and controversial. I personally think it would be more 'shocking' if the prince WAS black. It would be like...what, so people of different races can't be together? A black princess can ONLY marry a black prince? That's just silly It actually irritates me when I see things like that. As if people of a color only look good to other people of that color.

I had a coworker whose sister had a baby with her black boyfriend, and since it was a tightass suburban town, everyone FREAKED out and whispered behind their backs about the half-black baby and how the girl's parents must be heartbroken, because their son is homosexual and their daughter had a baby with a black man. Absolutely ridiculous. Dark Ages.

Hmmm... nothing is saying so. It says he's from Maldonia, but that's got to be a fictional place since it's not showing up in my searches.

Perhaps hispanic? Doubtful though. I've never heard of a hispanic prince. Spanish maybe, but technically the Spaniards are white.
