An American re-enactor relaxes atop a Churchill heavy infantry tank.Supposedly when asked about the new tank Winston Churchill commented, "That tank? It's not very good so they named it after me."

It had great armor but as an 'infantry tank' they never saw fit to give it a worthy weapon, though I'm sure there were practical reasons they couldn't put a bigger gun on it.

Mostly limitations imposed by the turret ring - if they wantedΒ to fit a bigger gun, they'd have to make a bigger turret, and that would lead to increasing the diameter of the ring, and that would require redesign of the hull and slowing down production.
