your talkin bout the lengthy dry times reminded me of something frazetta's son talked about in an interview, said his dad often put his paintings in the oven at low heat to help them dry quicker. his stuff was mostly watercolor from what i understand (could be wrong) not sure how oils would hold up with that as i've never used em

Really great handling of paint here, bold, confident and expressive without being confusing or seeming inappropriate. The deep pinks and purples of the face give it quite an edgy feel, which I really like. Nice one!

Great job, Dave and I would say that at this point in his life, impasto is the perfect way to paint Jack's portrait.

The intensity of the expression is perfectly matched to the technique; truly exceptional portraiture!

Weird how "fast and thick" takes about a day to produce-I should do more of these things..

I cheated alittle though Sam-Ya know-once the paint dried-I went over the existing paint with a different correct color{repainted it I guess is what Im trying to say} so its not "every stoke in this is the original intended stroke" etc.. Geeze-i feel like Ive just confessed a major sin-haaaaa!

Oh hell-- my initial strokes are only there to give me something concrete to argue with; my initial stuff is only there to provoke an outraged correction from me!

wonderful, it's always great to see your new work.
this is gonna sound silly but I was told by my dad that we're related to him, not that I could prove it or anything

Even with the thicker paint and more painterly approach I can still see your precise lines peeking through. Impressive stuff!

Thanks-I put that paint on like an inch thick-but when it dried it was like 1/16th of an inch..weird..

I recently saw some oil paintings by an artist from here in GA. The paint was put on so thick that the gallery owner said it takes them six freaking months to dry when the artist finishes them!
That is weird. I haven't used gel medium before. Fun?

Yeah-It lengthens the drying time big time-Im using it religously now. Yeah-The drying time with oils is scaring me now with the stories that Ive been hearing..I guess you cant glaze a piece for a YEAR!? WTF! Maybe I should just stick to my acrylics man-haaaaa-Lifes too short to watch paint dry everyday for sure

No kidding, with deadlines for some of the shows I've been in 6 months drying time is 5 and 1/2 months too much. You should have no problem sticking with Acrylics, you've got good control over them.

Ill try the oils maybe mid april-I wont glaze em-I guess they take about 2 weeks to dry and I bought some liquid that increases the drying time-so we'll see how that works out..Ive seen videos of artist studios and they always have a big ol pallet of their oils just sitting right out in the open air and that to me is frightening-like-dont them paints ever dry??haaaaa

I know. I just finished a bunch of little paintings with the leftovers I had wrapped in wet paper towels and ensconced in ziploc bags that had been in my fridge for the past three months. I almost wish I hadn't because now I see how empty my fridge is without all those palettes in there!
