Glad someone still checks out my site... thanks, dave! And of course I have a 'daveman' folder! I'm still working on my favs collections and gallery... I didn't realize that I had so much stuff in there until I started sorting through it.
I know you've probably all but given up on me... but there are big changes happening in my living-situation right now. I promise that I'll be back making art in a couple months.
Still lovin your stuff, man!

Dont worry Dawn-I never give up on anyone{isnt that a flawed character trait?haaa!} You are in my thoughts every time that I log on here actually..2008 seems to be the year of the "Changing Rat" as it appears that things are turned upside down-probably for the better in the long run..Hope things straighten out where you can have that peaceful/crazyness that is creating your art again soon..Your still on the front page of my "Cool Book" and thatll never change Be Cool-Be Safe-its all gunna work out fine..

never have i seen anything so simultaneously creepy and sexy. i love it.
this, along with "pretty deep" "jungle love" and "where the boys are", makes a great series of pinups.

I am totally blown away by the fact that you can do something so amazing with acrylics... I used to work in acrylic but it dries so fast.

Yeah oils definitely take time to master, I know when I switched over it took me a while to get used to them. I didn't really think about it but they really are a whole different medium.

you rule at acrylics, why switch to oils? Unless of course acrylics are driving you mad.
I swear if you lived closer I'd be trying to weasle you into teaching me how to paint better.

Hey Josh Id definately show you what I know with the paints no problem-its all just choices/techniques etc that I could run by you in 10 minutes..The best thing to do is just see how the palate is mixed and you would paint nearby and Id only suggest stuff..Im thinkin' oil's lately bro because their more "prestigious"/old-school..{money/serious stoggedy collector's prefer them I hear}..and dude! I do love acrylics-but they dry differently{what you painted..once its dry,is totally not the same}..so tediously going over a surface with acrylics means, at least 3 layers, to bond seamlessly to a canvas-Where as with oils its more a matter of stacking transparent color on the first shot..I Guess??! Its kinda a coke vrs pepsi debate, but yeah-I can get oil effects with acrylic{ and it takes an added 6 hrs to get em} where as oils it would save time and have the natural translucency that acrylics simply cant do..Im torn between two lovers..and I never slept with "Oil"...yet-

I hear that. I get pretty frustrated with how quick acrylic dries as well. Especially where I live, the air quality is so dry and shitty that the paint jut dries faster.
Im actually thinking about trying those water mixable oils, so I dont have to deal with any turpentine.

Yeah the water soluable ones may be a good alternative-I think they dry faster too-wich is a real good thing..I did try out oils many years ago and after 2 days of drying time the paints STILL tacky, and then when going over it the paints tend to lift/smudge if not re-wetted again with the solvent{I think I used a %50-%50 mixture of linseed oil and cotton oil?-I dont remember} Anyway..well takle that mountain when we get there man

Great work, Dave and a departure from your usual work! I love the color, the expression on her face, the colorful contours and the really stylized horns.
I really like your wife's optimism, and I wouldn't hesitate to hang this in my house! Now, your job is to find someone with an extra $5,000 or $6,000 who would like to own it!

Hey-Id be happy with $150.00 my friend..Its like Sanford and Son here-and Lamont dont like me takin from the piggy bank to get my nightly Thunderbird etc...Thanks for the kind words Deca-but in reality we all know that Zerg is the master of "Horned Women" and I somewhat cleared it with him first, before I posted this, with his gleefull approval..He loves it!, so all is golden in my world..Its a departure for me because its not complicated-Haa! and its kinda in your-face "dark"-as opposed to my "candy-coated dark comedy"..I do have an opportunity coming to small group-show with more darker "named" people and they want "darker". I dunno if Ill be able to go there..Im "Black Sabbath" but these guys are "Venom" etc..I will finer tune things where maybe noone will know what to expect and still accept it man..Alls I know is %70 of my usual friends saw this painting, and didnt even comment-Haaaaa! I guess I should do more Breakfast Clubs whatever.....

You're selling yourself short at $150, Dave, but I certainly understand the Sandford and Son reference. It's the same here, but I can't bring myself to paint the same old tired shit everyone else sells. Paul definitely has a way with the darker versions of the fair sex, doesn't he? I'm sure he was pleased that you asked for his blessings, although I couldn't see him refusing you.
I would love to have a small-group show with the venomous people and often wonder how "dark" my painting could get. I'm sometimes afraid to go there, and have been aware of toning them down for general consumption.
It's a shame to think that "Queen of the Deep" could bring five to ten times the price I stated long after we're all gone.

Yeah-Money and art is a weird thing..Its kinda about "letting go"..It just dawned on me to submit this painting into a buddy of mines show{Josh who runs the creep machine [link] }-Im already in the show but this would kinda fit-because its based on inspiration from old B-Movies and stuff.. Peace and Talk soon man
