Description my firt screenshot on Ubuntu Natty Narwall 11.04 Beta 2 with a few changes:

-Gtk theme: Wave by Seahorsepip [link]
-Metacity theme: Elementary borderless [link] Β§ion=&global=1&q=elementary+borderless#/d36robq
-Icons: Faenza Cupertino + Tray icons for Gnome and Tiny tray icons for Gnome [link] Β§ion=&global=1&q=tray+icons+for+gnome#/d31bcq9 [link]
-Wallpaper: made by me (not realised yet, I'll realise it if you like it)
-Cursor theme: Comix Cursors

Note: the cursor theme you see is the one I have chosen in the appearence settings but for some reason I only see it when using Firefox, otherwhise i see the default one. Someone knows how to fix it?
Note 2:It seems that the Unity panel follows the Gtk theme's background, but this only works for Ambiance and Radiance. Someone knows how to change the color or the background image of the panel?

Suggestions are welcome.

UPDATE: 17th April 2011
Cleaner shot. The panel is a fake, it's only a gradient on top of my wallpaper, with the unity panel set to transparent via the unity plugin for Compiz.

UPDATE: 18th April 2011
I think that's the good one. I managed to change the icons of the Nautilus' sidebar and I got that nice big dropshadows for the active windows via modifing the metacity theme. I also added some Compiz effects (concentration helper) as you can see in the 2nd image.

From Ubuntu 10.04 it comes by default with Nautilus Elementary. You only have to enable it from the "view" menu or by hitting F4

Lovely! Can you give me some guidelines on how to modify the theme to show the big fat shadows underneath the windows?

I got if fron the Natty's Radiance Metacity. You have to edit the metacity-theme-1.xml document you find inside the metacity-1 folder of the theme and add where it says "frame styles" for each frame style the following:

changing the values according to the frame style you're editing, for example:

For the cursor, have you tried putting the name of the theme in /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidOteroNavarro In reply to SirZifkin [2011-04-18 15:16:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh and then hit alt + f2 and run compiz --replace. That might make it work

looks great. Yes I have the same problems with the cursor in Naty 11.04 beta 2and meerkat. and yes the panel follows gtk theme and how do we change the icons on the panel?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidOteroNavarro In reply to ShippD [2011-04-16 19:54:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks I didn't have those problems in 10.10... Well, it's because it's a beta, I supose. I guess you mean the System Tray icons. That's easy to do: you only have to download a theme for the Systray (for example the one I used), extract the folder and open the index.theme file inside it. Where is says "Inherits" you have to type in the first place the name of the icon theme you want to use (in my case it was like that: "Inherits=Faenza-Cupertino,Humanity,Tango,gnome"). Save the document and copy the folder to "home/yourusername/.icons". Now you can choose the icon theme in the appearence settings, clicking on customize and choosing your theme from the "Icons" tab.
