Thanks for your comment. I took this photo from the top of a bridge so it was a great vantage point.

The part I like best about this shot is how the motorway roads curve around each other....

For sure, and how the orange of the street lights contrasts with the black and the pink of the tower. Cool shot!

Living in Howick at the moment but have lived in Freemans Bay, Grey Lynn and Ponsonby previously (flat hopping!), I used to go across Hopetoun Bridge daily on my way to work or university.

I've always wanted to do long exposures of down on the motorway and capture the traffic below, but it's probably too late in the year for that (by the time it gets dark the traffic has eased up now).
I've always been annoyed by those big flood lights which sit between the bridge and the skytower, meaning that if I did any decent exposure of the tower the spotlight give off huge highlights with no detail... but I have a crap kit lens on my 400d which probably doesn't help.

I also have the kit lens. I'm saving up for the image stabiliser. There is a deal on trade me where you can get the 17-85mm for $699 if you trade in your 18-55mm, or it's $799 without the trade in. I'm going for the trade in (I've got it on layby). I've just got a tripod. My dad gave his old one. It's really cool and is over 50 years old. So I might go back to Hopetoun tonight and try again with the tripod. I found that as traffic was going over the bridge it would shake a little so I would have to wait until there was no traffic before taking a shot...
